REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2025
ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable activities
2025 has been a stable year for our charity as we work hard to fulfil our objectives. We have been encouraged to see our congregation maintain steady numbers with about 135 adults and 60 children with average Sunday congregation of about 100.
The heart of our vision is: Transforming Lives and Communities Through the Message of Christ, and we remain active throughout the week within our community and operate out of our central base - The Hope Centre.
This report for 2025 details the significant changes and activities throughout the course of the year.
Sunday Services
Sunday services during 2025 remained stable, and continued to grow in regard to our children and youth with increasing numbers attending over the course of the year. In addition, the diversity of the congregation continues with many nationalities represented in both the congregation and the Sunday volunteer teams. We remain grateful to all our volunteers whose commitment allows service to remain organised and efficient. Once again our special International Service representing again over 20 nationalities!
Café
The Community Café continues to operate at the heart of the Centre as a hub and community space as well as a warm space during the winter. In partnership with the Foodbank we also operate a food voucher system for Foodbank clients whereby people can access a hot meal and drink.
In addition, the Café hosts many local groups including the Chess Club and is a catch point for the local team of social prescribers. In addition, we are a venue offering many volunteer opportunities where individuals can learn new skills and grow in confidence before looking for other employment opportunities as their skills and confidence grows.
Room Hire
Over the course of 2025 we made the decision to extend our room hire to include Saturday and out of Staff hours bookings. This is proving to be a fruitful step and is offering an additional income stream for the Charity. This now allows for birthday and celebration booking and we have seen a steady stream of continued bookings from a healthcare, local business and community organisations. We are limited on hire periods during the week due to regular activities within the centre but room hire continues to be part of our strategy and we can where required offer catering as part of the booking package.
Small Groups and Gatherings
We have a number of small groups and gatherings operating which offer various levels of support in terms of friendship and Christian growth and development. Currently this includes: Prayer meeting, Men's Breakfast, Ladies Breakfast, Women of Hope, Chess Clubs and Life Group.
Youth and Children's Work Overview
During 2025 our regular children and youth activities have stayed consistent and continued to see good engagement from our Church and community. Over the course of the summer my role changed to part time as I took on the role of leading a new church plant, and Charlotte was employed as the Youth and Children's Leader alongside me. This led to some changes in the structure of our activities as I will explain below.
Sundays
We have continued to provide groups for ages 0-16 with three teams functioning on a rota basis to facilitate these groups. Charlotte plans sessions each week to engage the different age groups and we are supported by a team of approximately 18 volunteers. The 1st week of the month is an all-age family service where the children stay in the room for the duration. We are pleased to continue being a Church that prioritises our children and young people and seeks to ensure they feel safe and welcome and enjoy being part of our Church family.
Toddler Group
Bubbles toddler group has continued on Friday mornings, with 15-30 children attending each week. Parents always speak very highly of our group, for the welcome that we give and the environment that is created. The snacks of toast and fruit are always appreciated and the singing time that I lead always goes down well with everyone.

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2025
After School Club
Excite after school club continued to run on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons until July 2025, with approximately 15-20 children attending each of the sessions. Following the role change over the summer, we changed to one after school club running on Friday, which we also renamed to Aspire. This was to facilitate Charlotte and I being able to run the club together alongside the commitments of our other roles. The club has maintained a format of games and craft activities and the provision of food for the children. We also share a Bible story with them each week.
Youth Club
Youth Club continued throughout the year meeting on Friday evenings and creating a safe space for our young people to relax and build friendships. We continued to play games, provide food and have discussions about faith. Since September 2025 we saw an increase in young people from outside our church attending the club which has been positive, although it did become harder to facilitate discussions around faith.
NG Church Network
We also continued gathering our young people with the NG Church Network, meeting at different Church venues throughout the year. The gathering in the Autumn saw the largest so far with 64 young people attending. It is great to see the deepening of relationships among the youth in our network and to be meeting more regularly together.
Dreaming The Impossible
We had a great trip to DTI in the summer, once again camping with Eagle's Nest but also joined for a day by some of the youth from ReChurch. In this larger environment our young people feel more free to engage in worship and have meaningful encounters with God. It's a highlight of the year for them and always a privilege to spend this extended time with our youth.
Overseas Mission Support
We work closely with several mission charities and AoG Missionaries and offer small amounts of support to them each month. This includes two child sponsorship programs in Ghana and Colombia.
NG11 Foodbank
Over the last year there has been much partnership growth with our Foodbank with new connections and professionals adding to the services already in place. We have continued to operate under our holistic vision whilst supporting through education and empathy. This approach works well for our community with over 95% of our feedback speaking positively about the way we work constantly to improve our services.
The Foodbank continues to work with Nottingham Citizens Advice offering 2 days of general advice, and 1 day of debt advice. We also worked with the organisation Futures who are based at the Job Centre each Tuesday helping to support people back into employment.
We offered several Cooking courses and Budgeting courses throughout 2025 setting a pattern that we plan to continue with collaboration from our local Social Prescribers.
After a period of consultation with local senior citizens we set up our Free Over 60's Lunch at the end of the year with the aim to provide good wholesome food and create space to help alleviate loneliness and isolation. This project continued over the winter and with additional funding secured we were able to plan and continue this into 2026. It's a joy to see friendships growing out of the group and encouraging to know that these simple but important projects make a difference.
Our food bank continues to change depending on what is needed in the community and over the course of 2025 we engaged in conversations with The Food Sustainability Group to highlight poverty in our area of Nottingham and partnered with Nottingham Financial Resilience Group to ensure we have the relevant knowledge and to learn new skills to help peoples finances go further. As a member of Trussell Trust we are assured of ongoing guidance and training to enable us to offer the best support and advice we can to those Continued training by the Trussell Trust educates us to give the best service we can, to our clients.
As a Foodbank we continue to work on our strategic approach as outlines under our 8 objectives which are:
i) To provide emergency food to those in crisis
ii) To directly help people find long term solutions to their issues
iii) To signpost effectively to other services
iv) To build connections and partnerships between local services

Fundraising activities
Hope Enterprises (Nottingham) Limited is the trading subsidiary company of Hope Church Nottingham and continued to operate its four shops in Clifton, Sherwood, Meadows and Crown Island. 2025 was a good year for the business. In his role as Senior Area Manager, Dave Horner has developed the business and staff team bringing his experience in retail into Hope Enterprises. Our aim for the shops is to create optimum success for the benefit of the charity and its objectives; to provide good quality pre loved goods to our customers and create environments of hope and welcome in the communities where our shops operate. The Charity Shop sector is a quickly changing environment and as part of our future planning we are exploring the opportunities for a further shop along with plans to move some of our sales online using such platforms as Ebay and Vinted.
The charity also operates a separate trading subsidiary in order to run the Hope Café as referred to earlier in the report called Hope Café Nottingham Limited. Separate accounts are submitted for Hope Enterprises (Nottingham) Limited and Hope Café Nottingham Limited to Companies House annually.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
Principal funding sources
The Charity has four principal sources of income:
1. Voluntary contributions of its members
2. Grants
3. Gift Aid from Hope Enterprises Nottingham Limited
4. Gift Aid returns
Reserves policy
The Trustees have examined the charity's requirements for reserves in light of the main risks to the organisation. It has established a policy whereby the unrestricted funds not committed or invested in tangible fixed assets held by the charity should be three months of expenditure. The reserves are needed to meet the working capital requirements of the charity and the Management Committee are confident that at this level they would be able to continue the current activities of the charity in the event of a significant drop in funding.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Governing document
The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust, and constitutes a limited company, limited by guarantee, as defined by the Companies Act 2006.
Organisational structure and staffing
The Church Council has continued to meet regularly throughout the year to monitor finance and expenditure, to oversee procedures and policies and to ensure that the charity maintains good housekeeping and adheres to its responsibilities under charitable law.
Stephen Hackney continued in a full-time role as Minister of the church, and continued with the leadership, pastoral and ministry responsibilities, supported by the wider Church Leadership.

Wider network
The church has key strategic partnerships with the NG11 Foodbank, offering services to the local community and people in need. NG11 Foodbank is a franchise of the Trussell Trust.
Wider Ministry
Stephen continues to take an active role in the city-wide ministry through the NG Network and also attends regular meetings with other city leaders for Prayer, Training and Fellowship days. Stephen also continues in his role of Chair of the Clifton Neighbourhood Board.
We continue to develop relationships with other denominational churches and ministers within the locality and Stephen and Andrew attend a monthly meeting with Ministers from other churches in the local community.
Connected Charities
Assemblies of God:
| The Assemblies of God in Great Britain and Ireland is the largest Pentecostal Denomination and serves a membership of some 500 churches nationwide and Hope Church Nottingham has been in affiliation with the Denomination since the late 1950's. | The church has specific policies in respect of the following matters: |
