Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts and value added tax. Turnover comprises professional loss adjusting fees and the recovery of expenses incurred in connection with client assignments.
Rendering of services
Revenue from loss adjusting services is recognised as the services are performed. Where an assignment is incomplete at the reporting date, revenue is recognised by reference to the stage of completion where the outcome can be estimated reliably.
Where the company is responsible for providing the overall service, amounts invoiced to clients are recognised gross as revenue and fees charged by other Abaco entities or external experts are recognised as direct costs. Where the company acts only as an agent or facilitator, revenue is limited to the fee or margin attributable to the company..
Significant judgements and estimates
The preparation of the financial statements requires management to make judgements and estimates which affect the reported amounts of assets, liabilities, revenue and expenses. Actual results may differ from these estimates.
Assessment of revenue and work in progress
Management exercises judgement in assessing the stage of completion of open assignments at the reporting date and the amount of revenue attributable to services performed.
Management also considers the nature of international assignments when determining whether the company is acting as the principal service provider or as an agent or facilitator. This assessment considers the company’s role in the assignment, responsibility for delivery of the service and the involvement of other Abaco entities.
