COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

SUSTAIN FILM FESTIVAL C.I.C.

Company Number: 16082960 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 November 2025

Company activities and impact

During the year, Sustain Film Festival delivered a diverse international programme of films and animations centred around themes relating to planet and people, alongside talks, workshops and related cultural activities in Guildford. The festival brought together filmmakers, audiences, local organisations and creative professionals, providing opportunities for emerging and independent filmmakers to have their work seen and discussed, while giving local audiences access to a wide range of perspectives and creative responses to contemporary social, environmental and wellbeing issues. A central aim of the festival is not only to stimulate discussion and reflection, but also to encourage individual and collective action around sustainability and wellbeing. Through its programme and associated events, the company sought to create opportunities for audiences to engage with ideas, exchange perspectives and consider practical ways in which communities and individuals can contribute to a more sustainable and healthy future. The company also worked with local venues, community organisations, educational partners and businesses, helping to strengthen connections across Guildford’s creative and cultural community. Its activities contributed to cultural participation, creative learning, community engagement and support for the local visitor economy.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company engaged throughout the year with a wide range of stakeholders, including filmmakers and other creative contributors, audiences, local venues, community organisations, educational partners and local businesses. Feedback was gathered through meetings, conversations, event participation, audience responses and direct engagement with those taking part in and attending festival activities. We also collected audience data and completed surveys and audience metrics for our principal funder, the BFI/Independent Cinema Office, with whom we maintain a strong and ongoing relationship. This provided useful evidence about audience reach, engagement and the effectiveness of the festival’s activities. This engagement helped shape the development and delivery of the festival, including the choice and format of events, the use of local venues, approaches to audience accessibility and community participation, and the development of relationships with local partners. Feedback from filmmakers, audiences, funders and partner organisations will also inform future editions of the festival and its wider programme of screenings, workshops and community activity.
