Colne Radio is a community radio station, founded in Wivenhoe in 2011 and since 2017 has been broadcasting 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the radio on channel FM106.6. It does this with a team of about 25 presenters led by a Station Manager and a Deputy from a studio in Wivenhoe. There is a Board of Directors who have overall responsibility for the station, its policies and its finance. All of the people involved with Colne Radio are volunteers. In May 2024 we were awarded a grant from the National Lottery for a 3 year project called Finding Your Voice. This money was used to primarily to pay for the cost of using trainers who are known to us and can teach various radio journalism skills such as podcasting, recording, editing and interviewing techniques, making jingles and promos, reading the news, presenting and making radio features. The funding has also paid for the project to be managed professionally. This has been done admirably by Wendy and Will Bixby working as joint Project Managers. Wendy has focussed mainly on project administration and communications whilst Will has been organising and leading many courses. They have been helped by other people in the Colne Radio team. The feedback from all of these courses has been extremely positive and more people have benefitted from the Finding Your Voice project than we envisaged when we set it up and agreed benchmarks with the Lottery. The impact that this project has had on the community has been recognised by winning a Silver Award at the 2025 Community Radio Awards.
We do not have specific consultation events with our listeners, but we do have a telephone line into the studio which people can call us on or alternatively they can contact Colne Radio via our email address. We only get positive feedback.
All of the directors act in a voluntary capacity as far as Colne Radio CIC and receive no remuneration for their service as a director. However, the following directors were remunerated for their services on the Finding Your Voice project as agreed in principle with the National Lottery. These were: Justin Fairweather - £ 6,125.00 Sue Scutt - £ 4,768.00 Wendy Bixby - £15,462.50
No transfer of assets other than for full consideration
