REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2025

The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2025. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
Our vision is to relieve poverty and implement sustainable development for people affected by the civil war in Sri Lanka. We do this by supporting individuals, charity organisations and not-for-profit organisations that are helping the same cohort of people both in the UK and in Sri Lanka. We provide essential subsistence needs, help advance education and training, provide accommodation and initiate sustainable cottage industry income generating projects and improve water supplies. The charity also aims to provide well-being counselling and/or treatment to persons who suffer from illnesses, including mental or physical, of any description or in need of rehabilitation as a result of such illness.

Public benefit
The Trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty in section 4 of the Charities Act 2006 to have due regard to public benefit guidance published by the Commission in determining the activities undertaken by the Charity.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Summary for 2025
V4U sponsored a novel project this year working with Mathaku Media and the Prisoners Welfare Association (Sri Lanka), our local implementation partners with the facilitation of Dr K. Sugumar (Wallington,UK). The project supported the Open Prison in Batticaloa to set-up Handloom Training and Production facility for prisoners. The object was to train them with skill sets for employment when they are released from prison and to reduce the risk of re-offending. Prisoners are also motivated to earn an income while in prison by making saleable goods and therefore helping to support their families who have relied on their income. It was inaugurated on 29th August 2025. The operation was reviewed positively by officials from Department of Rural Industries (government department) who were impressed by the initiative and wanted to show case the initiative for other prisons.

When the devastating floods hit Sri Lanka this year V4U was quick to respond, working closely with the local government agents (Grama Sevakas and District Sevakas) to coordinate flood relief efforts, delivering much needed dry rations and cooking utensils to those people that were directly/visibly affected. The coordinated effort with other NGO's and charities was a success in optimising the use of resources made available by them, in a timely and targeted manner, using verified information.

Our revolving funds projects with the cooperative societies in Sri Lanka continue to function in the areas of Mannar, Mullaitheevu and Amparai helping small cottage industries and providing basic training.

Interest-free local microfinance support continues with the help of our implementation partners in Sri Lanka. In the Vanni areas we continue to sponsor small projects that create self-sufficiency amongst local villagers, mainly in agriculture. The support provided to them includes resource planning and optimising prices achieved for produce. The projects require a mix of support e.g. identifying suitable third-party land for cultivation, clearing, provision of seeds, water supply, cultivation support and harvesting. Where necessary specialist equipment may be hired for one-off jobs e.g. clearing land or providing water supply.

The Aarraneri Weekend School continued to operate in the four areas successfully through 2025 with the interest and support of our local Project Officer, St Johns (UK) volunteers and our implementation partner (We For You, Sri Lanka). V4U continues to provide financial assistance using money donated by St John's senior PPA members and Mrs Rosa Thavatheva to fund teachers and stationary. The schools have progressed to making cultural shows presented at local temples that reflect the principles and values they are being taught at these schools.

V4U has not raised funds from the public using events like dinner dances, badminton and football tournament or event sponsorships. As V4U has neither increased its activities this year nor contributed to revolving funds in micro-finance projects with We For You (Sri Lanka) there are sufficient reserves, to support current projects if all income stops going forward, for one year.

V4U UK LTD

NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2025

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of preparing the financial statements
The financial statements of the charitable company, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

Going Concern
As V4U has neither increased its activities this year, nor contributed to revolving funds in micro-finance projects with (We For You, Sri Lanka), there are sufficient reserves to support the current projects for the next twelve months. Therefore, trustees remain confident that V4U UK Ltd would remain in operation for the next twelve months.

For these reasons, the accounts have been prepared on a going concern basis.

Income
All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.

Donations are recognised when the charity has been notified in writing of both the amount and settlement date. In the event that a donation is subject to conditions that require a level of performance before the charity is entitled to the funds, the income is deferred and not recognised until either those conditions are fully met, or the fulfilment of those condition is wholly within the control of the charity and is probable that those conditions will be fulfilled in the reporting period.

Expenditure and irrecoverable vat
Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

Irrecoverable VAT is charged as a cost against the activity for which the expenditure was incurred.

Taxation
The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.

Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.

Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.

Cash and Cash Equivalents
Cash and cash equivalents are represented by cash in hand, deposits held at call with financial institutions, and other short-term highly liquid investments that mature in no more than three months from the date of acquisition and that are readily convertible to known amounts of cash with insignificant risk of change in value.
