During the year, Bradford Active Dance (B.A.D) continued to deliver a programme of community-focused dance and physical activity opportunities designed to increase access to the arts, support physical and emotional wellbeing, and strengthen connections within local communities. B.A.D delivered weekly dance sessions through community hubs across Bradford, providing affordable and inclusive opportunities for children and young people to participate in dance within their local communities. Alongside this, we worked with local schools to deliver curriculum-based dance sessions and extra-curricular activities, including after-school dance clubs. These opportunities supported children and young people to increase their physical activity while developing creativity, confidence, social skills and positive relationships. Participants were also given opportunities to celebrate and share their achievements through two community dance performances, held during the summer and winter. These events provided a platform for young people to demonstrate their development, recognise their achievements and build confidence through performing for family, friends and the wider community. B.A.D also performed at Race for Life at Lister Park, providing young dancers with valuable performance experience and the opportunity to contribute to and engage with a wider community event. A key element of our work during the year was increasing young people's access to cultural experiences beyond their regular dance sessions. B.A.D delivered four cultural exchange workshops in collaboration with external artists and dance companies. These workshops introduced participants to different dance styles, creative approaches and artistic practices, broadening their understanding of dance and culture. Young people were also supported to visit and experience different dance and cultural spaces across Bradford, enabling them to experience a variety of professional and creative environments. We also supported families to attend two different performance opportunities, providing access to dance within a theater setting and through a site-specific performance as part of Bradford's City of Culture 2025 programme. These opportunities enabled children and their families to experience dance in different contexts and helped broaden their awareness of the cultural opportunities available within Bradford. Overall, B.A.D's activities during the year contributed to improved physical and emotional wellbeing, increased confidence and creativity, stronger community connections and the development of new friendships and relationships. By providing affordable, inclusive and locally accessible opportunities, B.A.D continued to reduce barriers to participation and enable children, young people and families to engage positively with dance, physical activity and culture. Our programme also supported participants to develop a greater sense of belonging and connection to their local community, while providing experiences that extended beyond weekly participation. Through partnerships, cultural exchange, performance opportunities and access to new spaces, B.A.D continued to create positive pathways for young people to engage with the wider cultural sector and experience opportunities that may otherwise have been inaccessible to them.
