Intangible fixed assets comprise internally developed software systems and website development costs used in the business.
Expenditure is capitalised where it is technically feasible to complete the asset, the Company intends and has sufficient resources to complete development, and it is probable that future economic benefits will arise from the asset. All other expenditure is recognised in profit or loss as incurred.
Intangible fixed assets are stated at cost less accumulated amortisation and any provision for impairment.
Assets in the course of construction (including website development costs not yet available for use) are held at cost and are not amortised until the asset is brought into use.
Amortisation is charged on a straight-line basis over the estimated useful economic life of the asset, which is typically three years from the date the asset is brought into use. The amortisation method and useful life are reviewed annually and adjusted if appropriate.
Where indicators of impairment exist, intangible assets are reviewed for impairment and written down to their recoverable amount if necessary.
The Company applies the cost model; intangible assets are not revalued.
