Trustees' Report
The trustees present their report and the financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2025.
Objectives and Activities
Aims and Objectives
The LATA Foundation is dedicated to promoting responsible business practices in the tourism industry, as well as sustainable development, conservation and poverty relief in Latin America, by funding, supporting and developing charitable projects throughout the region.
Significant Activities
Applications for funding are accepted from charitable organisations, registered NGOs and charitable projects based in Latin America, as well as charities working in Latin America but registered in other countries. Applications meeting The LATA Foundation's funding criteria are assessed by the projects team before final approval by the trustees. Approved applications are subject to a project agreement setting out the project's objectives, timetable and reporting requirements.
Public Benefit
The grants awarded by The LATA Foundation are subject to an approval process and are made to charitable organisations for projects that further the Foundation's charitable objectives and provide public benefit.
The trustees confirm that they have complied with the requirements of Section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.
EMPLOYEE AND VOLUNTEERS
In January 2025, The LATA Foundation appointed its first employee on a part-time basis to support fundraising and volunteer coordination. The cost of the post was initially funded by the Latin American Travel Association (LATA) for the first six months, with the Foundation funding the post from July 2025.
During the year, the Foundation's activities were supported by both its employee and volunteers. Volunteers assisted with fundraising and the support of charitable projects in Latin America, working alongside the Fundraising and Volunteer Manager and the trustees.
Achievements and Performance
Main Achievements
During the year, The LATA Foundation met its charitable objectives by awarding grants of £20,246 to five charitable projects across Latin America.
The projects supported were El Rio Foundation in Colombia (£5,000), Picaflor House in Peru (£5,586), Pro Eco Azuero / Pablo Arturo Barrios Wildlife Refuge in Panama (£4,800), Community Baboon Sanctuary in Belize (£3,858) and Projeto Vidançar in Brazil (£1,002). The projects supported education, environmental protection and conservation, sustainable tourism and economic development.

El Rio Foundation - Colombia
El Rio Foundation was established due to the desire of the El Rio Hostel in Buritica, near Santa Marta, to give back to the local community by offering educational support and community sport opportunities, as well as reforestation and waste management projects.  Building on the English language programme that we helped fund for several years, our funding in 2025 supported a full year of English teaching and tutoring in one community in Buritica.
Amount granted in 2025: £5,000.00
Picaflor House – Peru
Picaflor House is an educational charity working in the small town of Oropesa, and other villages in the surrounding rural area 25km outside of Cusco, which offers a comprehensive after school programme in academic and non-academic subjects to children aged 3-15.  Continuing on from our funding in 2024 our funding in 2025 supported a mobile library project to improve access to and the quality of education for children in rural villages around Cusco who had been excluded from online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic due to a lack of access to the internet and computing devices.  The library visited three rural villages every week taking books, teachers, and other learning resources to 100 children aged between 5 and 14, helping them to re-engage with education and to catch-up academically.
Amount granted in 2025: £5,586.00
Pro Eco Azuero / Pablo Arturo Barrios Wildlife Refuge – Panama
...CONTINUED
Page 1
Page 2
Main Achievements - continued
Pro Eco Azuero is a non-profit organisation founded in 2010, dedicated to restoring the tropical dry forest in Panama’s Azuero Peninsula and protecting the critically endangered Azuero spider monkey. They have a shared management agreement with Panama’s Ministry of Environment to protect the Pablo Arturo Barrios Wildlife Refuge (PABWR). Although located in Pedasí, one of Panama’s most popular tourist destinations known for its beaches, marine life, and natural beauty, the PABWR remains relatively unknown to visitors despite its ecological significance. In 2025 our donation supported training 24 local young people as local advocates and ecotourism guides at PABWR.
Amount granted in 2025: £4,800.00
Community Baboon Sanctuary - Belize
The Community Baboon Sanctuary (CBS) was established in 1985 as a voluntary, community-led conservation initiative encompassing communities along 20 square miles of the Belize Old River. The project operates as part of a Community Conserved Area, in which individual landowners voluntarily pledge to participate in protection projects. The Community Baboon Sanctuary Women’s Conservation Group (CBSWCG) helps to develop eco-tourism to generate income for the communities within the CBS. Our donation in 2025 supported 3 workshops: 1) Training 20 participants in tour guiding, hosting homestays, organising familiarisation trips for tour operators and group presentations/talks 2) One-day training for 10 participants, including women and youths from within the CBS area, in housekeeping and homestay requirements as per the Belize Tourist Board 3) Training 20 potential entrepreneurs and homestay households in food preparation and catering.
Amount granted in 2025: £3,858.00
Projeto Vidançar - Brazil
Projeto Vidançar’s main activity is the Vidançar dance School, an initiative to offer underprivileged children from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro the opportunity to express themselves through the art of dance and to provide them with the opportunity to do activities that otherwise would not be possible due to their economic situation; such as trips to cultural attractions and a Christmas party. Having supported this project for several years the trustees donated the remaining money ringfenced for this project to support a cultural exchange for two young dancers from the project to France.
Amount granted in 2025: £1,001.61
During 2025, the Foundation also appointed its first employee to strengthen fundraising and volunteer coordination and continued to receive support from donors, supporters and the wider Latin American travel community.
FUNDRAISING
During 2025, The LATA Foundation received corporate donations from partners in the travel and hospitality industries and benefited from fundraising activities at LATA Expo. The Foundation also continued to receive support from individual donors, including long-standing regular donors.

Project Partners for 2026
In 2026 the Foundation will continue to work on aligning our projects with the areas of interest of our principal donors in the travel industry and have so far agreed support for the following projects:
Pro Eco Azuero – Panama
Community Baboon Sanctuary Women’s Conservation Group – Belize
Pachar – Peru
Galapagos Conservation Trust
Condor Clinic - Ecuador
Financial Review
Financial Position
The charity's financial position remained strong during the year. Total income for the year was £77,444 and total expenditure was £48,919, resulting in net income of £28,525.
At 31 December 2025, the charity had total funds of £133,562, comprising unrestricted funds of £131,223 and restricted funds of £2,339. The trustees consider the charity to be in a sound financial position to continue pursuing its charitable objectives.
During the year, the Foundation reviewed its approach to selecting projects, placing greater emphasis on projects with a link to tourism. This affected the timing of grants awarded during the year. The Foundation also appointed its first employee during 2025, resulting in additional recruitment, salary and associated staffing costs.
Page 2
Page 3
Reserves Policy
The trustees aim to maintain a minimum level of unrestricted reserves of £35,000. This is considered sufficient to enable the charity to continue meeting its ongoing commitments and charitable objectives, while providing appropriate financial resilience against unforeseen circumstances.
At 31 December 2025, the charity held total funds of £133,562, of which £131,223 were unrestricted funds and £2,339 were restricted funds. Restricted funds are held for the specific purposes for which they were received and are not available for the general purposes of the charity.
The trustees review the level of reserves annually, taking into account the charity's planned activities, future commitments and available resources.

Statement of Trustees' Responsibilities
The trustees (who are also the directors of The LATA Foundation for the purposes of company law) are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
Company law requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year. Under company law the trustees must not approve the financial statement unless they are satisfied that they give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company and of the incoming resources and application of resources, including the income and expenditure, of the charitable company for that period. In preparing the financial statements the trustees are required to:
  • select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
  • observe the methods and principles in the Charity SORP;
  • make judgments and accounting estimates that are reasonable and prudent; and
  • prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the company will continue in business.
The trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at anytime the financial position of the charitable company and to enable them to ensure that the accounts comply with the Companies Act 2006. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the company and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
The trustees are responsible for the maintenance and integrity of the corporate and financial information included on the charitable company's website. Legislation in the United Kingdom governing the preparation and dissemination of financial statements may differ from legislation in other jurisdictions.
Small Company Rules
This report has been prepared in accordance with the special provisions relating to companies subject to the small companies regime within Part 15 of the Companies Act 2006.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of The LATA Foundation
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended 31 December 2025.
Responsibilities and Basis of Report
As the charity trustees of the Company (and also its directors for the purposes of company law), you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 (“the 2006 Act”).
Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your charity’s accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the 2011 Act’). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.
Independent Examiner's Statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:
  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or
  2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or
  3. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair view' which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or
  4. the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
