Rix Grain Drying Limited is a
| 2. | ACCOUNTING POLICIES |
Basis of preparing the financial statements
Turnover
Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, excluding discounts, rebates, value added tax and other sales taxes.
Taxation
Taxation for the year comprises current and deferred tax. Tax is recognised in the Income Statement, except to the extent that it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity.
Current or deferred taxation assets and liabilities are not discounted.
Current tax is recognised at the amount of tax payable using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the balance sheet date.
Deferred tax
Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the balance sheet date.
Timing differences arise from the inclusion of income and expenses in tax assessments in periods different from those in which they are recognised in financial statements. Deferred tax is measured using tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the year end and that are expected to apply to the reversal of the timing difference.
Unrelieved tax losses and other deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits.
Hire purchase and leasing commitments
Rentals paid under operating leases are charged to profit or loss on a straight line basis over the period of the lease.
Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits
The company operates a defined contribution pension scheme. Contributions payable to the company's pension scheme are charged to profit or loss in the period to which they relate.
Going concern
The director has considered it appropriate that the company's financial statements are prepared on a going concern basis. The company is part of a wider group, but the parent undertaking has confirmed that it is not willing to provide financial support to the company, either currently or in the foreseeable future. As a result, the company must secure alternative sources of funding in order to meet its obligations as they fall due.
The director is actively exploring funding options and implementing measures to manage cash flow; however, no binding arrangements were in place at the date the financial statements were approved. These circumstances represent a material uncertainty that may cast significant doubt upon the company's ability to continue as a going concern.
Nevertheless, the financial statements have been prepared on a going concern basis, as the directors believe that there are reasonable prospects of securing sufficient funding and that the company will be able to continue trading for the foreseeable future.

| 2. | ACCOUNTING POLICIES - continued |
Critical accounting judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty
In the application of the company's accounting policies, the directors are required to make judgements, estimates and assumptions about the carrying amount of assets and liabilities that are not readily apparent from other sources. The estimates and associated assumptions are based on historical experience and other factors that are considered to be relevant. Actual results may differ from these estimates.
The estimates and underlying assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions to accounting estimates are recognised in the period in which the estimate is revised where the revision affects only that period, or in the period of the revision and future periods if the revision affects both current and future periods.
Key sources of estimation uncertainty
The estimates and assumptions which have a significant risk of causing material adjustment to the carrying amount of assets and liabilities as follows.
Accruals estimation
The financial statements include an accrual relating to an obligation arising from energy consumed out of contract. The final amount payable is subject to negotiation with the third party, and therefore involves significant judgement, with the directors using available market rates and the expertise of energy consultants to provide an estimate for the final unit price that will be agreed with the energy provider, however this estimate has a broad range of possible settlement values.
Based on this assessment, an accrual has been recognised representing management's best estimate of the expenditure required to settle the obligation as at the reporting date.
Due to the inherent uncertainty involved, the eventual settlement may differ from the amount provided. Management considers the judgement involved in determining this accrual to be critical because the outcome could materially influence the financial statements.
