Earth Future Roots CIC undertook many activities in the financial year ending 31/01/26 that benefited the local community. Over the year, we hosted six flagship ‘Wheel of the Year’ events that were specifically designed to create a space for the community to find greater connection with themselves, each other and with nature. These events educated the local people of Brighton to the traditional pagan holidays of the summer and winter solstices, spring and autumn equinoxes and the quarter fire festivals and also created employment opportunities for musicians, artists and facilitators who are part of the community, to their benefit financially and with exposure. We also hosted 10 different community organisations on the land, for gatherings of their own. This included a home education group, a group focused on making art with nature, and a group that helps people experiencing grief. Not only did we host these groups, we provided a space for them to incubate their activities and grow their own groups, with significant benefit from them and the local community. Finally, we ran numerous education sessions on traditional craft and woodworking skills, creating opportunities for the local community to learn these skills. This was alongside over 30 volunteer days where the local community learnt about forestry management, organic food growing, building skills and ecological health improvement. These sessions were very well received.
Our main stakeholders are: Stanmer Organics Ltd Stanmer Organics is the wider organisation which our project is a part of. We have monthly meetings as a group to consult each other and feedback on our activities. In response to feedback and discussion with this stakeholder, we have: 1. Helped with the maintenance of the Stanmer Organics site 2. Worked on the Millenium Woods project 3. Attended all Stanmer Organics Meetings of 2025 4. Was open for the Stanmer Organics Open Day 2025 The Future Roots Community As part of our project, we work with lots of people from Brighton & Hove, and have been building a strong community. We regularly consult these people on our activities and receive feedback on how we can best work with them and meet their needs. This is done through forms, in-person conversations and a yearly Community Consortium to collect their views. In response to their feedback we have: - Spent more time and effort to tidy the project and clear more areas for community use - Worked on our accessibility by adding more woodchip and creating more sturdy paths - Rearranged our kitchen to make it more suitable for community use - Invested in more infrastructure such as better lighting and equipment for the community to benefit from.
