One for the City CIC exists to grow collective charitable giving by Leeds businesses through a simple 1% model: member businesses commit to donate 1% of their profit or revenue for the benefit of the city. The company acts as the platform that brings members together and channels their donations to a charitable fund for distribution to local causes. During the year to 31 October 2025 the company continued to operate the 1% membership model. The principal development in the year was the transition of the charitable fund arrangement, moving from the fund administered by Leeds Community Foundation to a new fund arrangement with The Leeds United Foundation, a registered charity, which was finalised shortly after the year end. During the transition the company paused active collection of new member donations, so donation income in the year was limited, while the framework for the new partnership and the associated launch activity was put in place. The community benefit delivered by the company is the funding directed to Leeds charitable and social causes through the fund. Members are given the opportunity to help shape the causes supported. The company pays no salaries and retains no profit for private benefit; its surpluses are directed to charitable purposes in line with its asset-locked status as a community interest company.
The company's principal stakeholders are its member businesses, the charitable fund and its administering charity partner, and the Leeds community organisations that ultimately benefit from the funds raised. Members are consulted on the direction of the fund and are given the opportunity to help select the areas and causes that the fund supports. During the year the directors also engaged with the charity partner on the transition of the fund arrangement and the design of the funded projects. The company communicates with members on the impact of their donations through updates and an annual impact statement.
No remuneration was received
During the year the company made and committed charitable donations to outside bodies, being the onward payment of member donations to the charitable fund and a donation of £4,000 to Zarach, a registered charity supporting children in Leeds. These transfers are made in furtherance of the company's community purpose and consistent with its asset lock.
