Bas-Arts-Index CIC is Basildon’s first interdisciplinary, artist-led directory/network. Our mission is to provide a space for Basildons creative individuals, groups and organisations, born, living, working in or making work about the Basildon Borough. We hope to connect local creatives which in turn will generate activity, collaboration and to help support a cohesive local arts ecology. Activity from 31 December 2024 - 31st December 2025 Members: 16 new members signed up, by the end 31st December 2025 we had a total of 159 members. Over the course of the year our in person events were attended by 127 members of the public. This is the 2nd year of operation for the Bas Arts Index since it was constituted as a CIC. Over the past 12 months we have delivered the following activities to benefit our members: NEWSLETTERS: We have published 12 monthly newsletter to our membership, containing artist opportunities, member updates, and funding information. SPOTLIGHTS: (Spring 2025) Artists show and tell series supporting artists to share their work, trial ideas and reach new audiences IMPACT > supporting our members, artists support, building confidence in practice, skills development. AGM: (March) We held our first AGM and launched the Large Membership voting. IMPACT > Inclusive and transparent decision making SOCIALS: We facilitated regular socials, this year holding picnics in partnership with Gloucester Park Community Group over the summer. These were an opportunity for networking and friend making amongst the local art and environmentalists community. We arranged a Christmas social in the Orletto Lounge. IMPACT> Networking with fellow artists; creating solidarity; sharing professional opportunities; reducing social isolation. STRATEGIC ENGAGEMENT: We attended Basildon Cultural Forum meetings, joined the Made In Essex network and consulted on masterplans for the town centre. IMPACT > made our voice heard and advocated for improved cultural infrastructure in the town FEASIBILITY RESEARCH: Undertook a large feasibility report into stewardship of public art in the town. IMPACT > policy recommendations and improvements to civic space PEOPLE: We operate Bas Arts Index CIC on a voluntary basis. In 2025 we appointed a new Director, Emma Oliver with specialist knowledge of sustainability and accessibility, bringing our total Directors to 4, strengthening organisational resilience and leadership. All current Directors have a creative practice, we are an artist led organisation. In the year 2025 we contracted 13 different freelance creative professionals for the delivery of services. In addition to the Directors, we are very grateful to 1 longstanding volunteer and the exceptional cohort of collaborators we have worked with over the year.
The company’s stakeholders are members who are signed up to the Bas-Arts-Index network, who are members of the community which we serve. Core forms of consultation we undertake regularly are: Surveys are regularly sent out to members to better shape the activity we undertake We regularly maintain Group Discussions with our members to receive feedback on current projects and also brainstorming future project ideas. These conversations take place during public facing activities such as Bas-Arts-Socials. These conversations also take place informally on a private members facebook group and discord group. In March 2025 we held an AGM to report back on activity during the period of 2023/2024. During this meeting Bas Arts Index Directors opened the Large Membership offer and voting rights to members. At the AGM we consulted those attending on what activities they would like to see and also fundraising. The Large Membership offer remains open throughout the year for members that would like to obtain voting rights.
