Trustees' Report
The trustees present their report and the financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2026.
Objectives and Activities
Aims and Objectives
The financial statements are prepared in accordance with the Companies Act 2006, FRS 102 "The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland" and Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their financial statements in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).
The Trustees' Report contains the information required to be provided in the Trustees' Annual Report under the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) guidelines. The trustees of the charity are also charity trustees for the purpose of charity law and under the charity's constitution are known as members of the board of trustees.
In this report the trustees of Shopmobility Lisburn present a summary of its purpose, governance, activities, achievements and finances for the financial year 31 March 2026.
The charity is a registered charity and hence the report and results are presented in a form which complies with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 and, although not obliged to comply with the Statement of Recommended Practice applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland FRS 102, the organisation has implemented its recommendations where relevant in these financial statements.
Organisational Developments
This year has been one of significant growth and development as Mobility Lisburn continued to build upon the foundations established during our rebrand and strategic transformation.
A major milestone was the opening of our new city centre hub, providing an accessible base from which to expand our services beyond traditional Shopmobility provision.
The new premises have enabled us to begin developing projects that promote independence and reduce waste, including the introduction of a long-term mobility equipment hire service and plans to repurpose and recycle donated mobility aids for community use.
The increased support received through Department for Infrastructure (DfI) funding enabled the charity to strengthen its operational capacity by employing a part-time administrator, ensuring improved day-to-day service delivery while helping meet rising operational costs.
Our new premises have quickly become a recognised community asset. During the year we were pleased to host a DfI Managers' Meeting and welcome Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins, who visited the hub and commended the organisation for creating an inclusive, welcoming and innovative community space.
Public Benefit
The trustees have given due regard to the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland’s guidance on public benefit.
Achievements and Performance
Main Achievements
Achievements and Impact
Membership remained stable throughout the year while the organisation broadened its reach and diversified its activities.
Recognising that our role extends beyond mobility equipment hire, we continued to focus on reducing social isolation and improving community wellbeing. Alongside our established daily mobility services, we introduced regular community initiatives including coffee mornings and book swap events, creating opportunities for people to meet, build friendships and remain active within their local community.
Our partnership work continued to strengthen. We maintained our successful collaboration with the Mid Ulster Shopmobility Scheme, jointly delivering mobility services at the RUAS Balmoral Show, ensuring visitors with mobility needs could fully enjoy one of Northern Ireland's largest public events.
We also developed new partnerships with organisations including Rural Transport, allowing us to engage with individuals beyond our traditional service users and helping improve access to community activities for those experiencing mobility barriers.

Main Achievements - continued
Our longstanding partnership with a local community art group also continued to flourish through the delivery of a monthly, fundraising Arts and Crafts Fair. These events not only generate fundraising income but also provide opportunities for local artists, encourage community participation and increase awareness of Mobility Lisburn's services.
During the year we continued to signpost many individuals to specialist mobility suppliers, including John Preston Healthcare, when they were ready to purchase their own mobility equipment. While this may result in some individuals no longer requiring our hire service, the Trustees view this as a positive outcome, demonstrating that people are gaining greater independence, confidence and freedom to participate in everyday life.
Strategic Progress
The Trustees are pleased with the progress made against the objectives outlined in our Strategic Plan.
During the year we successfully:
• Secured additional funding to strengthen the organisation's sustainability.
• Opened and established our new city centre community hub.
• Expanded our service offer through starting our long-term mobility equipment hire.
• Began developing a mobility equipment recycling and repurposing initiative.
• Increased community engagement through inclusive social activities.
• Strengthened partnerships with statutory, voluntary and community organisations.
While volunteer recruitment remains a challenge, expanding our volunteer base continues to be a priority and will remain a key objective during the coming year.
Financial Review
Financial Position
Financial Overview
The organisation remains financially stable and continues to strengthen its long-term sustainability.
Additional funding secured during the year has enabled the charity to increase staffing capacity, manage increasing operational costs and invest in the development of new community-focused projects.
The Trustees remain committed to diversifying income through grant funding, fundraising activities and the continued development of social enterprise initiatives, aiming to reduce reliance on any single funding source while ensuring the charity remains financially resilient.
Recognition
The Trustees were delighted to see the dedication of our Manager recognised through the award of the Spirit of the Chamber Award 2026 from the Lisburn Chamber of Commerce. This prestigious recognition reflects her commitment to community development. As active members of the Chamber, we value the opportunities it provides to collaborate with local businesses and promote accessibility and inclusion throughout the wider community.
Looking Forward
Over the coming year, Mobility Lisburn will continue to build upon the progress achieved during 2025–2026.
Our priorities include:
• Increasing membership and widening awareness of our services.
• Expanding the long-term mobility equipment hire programme.
• Developing our mobility equipment recycling and repurposing project.
• Growing our volunteer team to support future expansion.
• Continuing to develop our social enterprise activities to improve long-term sustainability.
• Strengthening partnerships with statutory, community and voluntary organisations to improve accessibility throughout Lisburn and the surrounding area.
The Trustees remain committed to ensuring that Mobility Lisburn continues to be more than a mobility equipment provider. We strive to create opportunities for independence, inclusion and meaningful community participation, enabling people with mobility challenges to live active, connected and fulfilling lives.
Acknowledgements
The Trustees extend their sincere thanks to our dedicated staff, volunteers, members, funders and partner organisations for their continued commitment and support throughout the year. Your contribution plays a vital role in enabling Mobility Lisburn to deliver accessible, inclusive services that help people remain active, independent and connected within their community.

Financial Position - continued
We also gratefully acknowledge the continued support of the Department for Infrastructure (DfI), whose funding has enabled us to strengthen our services, expand our capacity and continue developing new initiatives that benefit our members and the wider community.
Structure, Governance and Management
Governing Document
We have undergone governance restructuring, welcoming new trustees to our board, including a local MLA and a councillor, which has strengthened our community ties and advocacy capabilities. In addition, our long-serving treasurer of 15 years stepped down and a new treasurer has joined, bringing a fresh perspective to our financial oversight.
Thanks to bespoke governance training provided by Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council (LCCC), our board has strengthened its knowledge of compliance, risk, and strategic development, positioning us for sustainable growth.

Grants towards fixed assets are recognised over the expected useful lives of the related assets and are treated as deferred income and released to the statement of financial activities over the useful life of the asset concerned.
