As in previous years, Grow Timsbury’s monthly market continued to run from April until November and restarted again in April 2026. The number of regular stallholders rose to 20, and the range of products also increased. In addition to the return of regulars such as greengrocers, cheese and preserves, meats, cakes, savouries, flowers and plants, we also had clothes, cosmetics, wine, beer and cider. Our activities to encourage sustainable lifestyles have also developed. Under the banner of “The Repair Room”, textile repairs have continued to expand, as have the cycle repairs and assistance. The kitchen and garden tool sharpening service now regularly attends. We anticipate delivering a number of related workshops in 2026/27; this will include ways to reduce heating costs and increase fuel efficiency. Alongside the increase in stallholders and market customers comes, unfortunately, a substantial increase in hire of the Village Hall facilities. We have negotiated a discount for a year from April 2026, but this is unlikely to continue in the 2027/2028 financial year. Whilst, as a CIC, we do not aim to make substantial profits, we do need to achieve sufficient income to maintain the market and advertise and extend related activities, which promote a sustainable, low-carbon and healthy lifestyle. We have been fortunate in securing some grant funding, but in the current financial climate, we anticipate that this will be limited. We will, therefore, need to explore new ways to ensure that the market can be self-sufficient in the future. Grow Timsbury has an excellent team of regular volunteers who help with all aspects of organising and delivering the market; from leafleting every house in the village twice yearly, to helping with setting up and taking down the market. They make the continuation of the market possible. At every market the directors informally gather the views of both shoppers and stallholders on the quality of the market and how it may be improved in the future. These are noted and wherever possible suggested changes are implemented. For example, in the year 2024/25, shoppers asked for a longer market. After discussions with stallholders, we began an extended market in April 2026. All our stallholders are local enterprises, which we carefully assess for quality and reliability. Consequently, we are proud that the Grow Timsbury Market can indirectly contribute to the vibrancy of the local economy. With regard to the securement of a piece of land for a community garden, our village has been identified, in the B&NES Local Plan, as an area suitable for development. This may potentially affect our village environs and create community displacement. The residents are currently developing a Neighbourhood Plan to address the issues mentioned above, and we anticipate that this will include the identification of a site suitable for a Community Garden. In the meantime, we will continue ‘preparing the ground’ for a time when this project can begin. This will include developing links with local organisations, including a new Health and Wellbeing practitioner at the doctors’ surgery in the village.
