KINGS RUGBY DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY (REGISTERED NUMBER: 11063211)
REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 29 NOVEMBER 2025
The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 29 November 2025. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Our objective:
The objects of the charity are the prevention and relief of child poverty and the advancement of children's education for the public benefit among children and young people in Africa, specifically the Kibera slums in Nairobi, Kenya. This is achieved through a range of awareness activities and events. The charity is then able to provide financial grants, items including kit and other relevant equipment, and a range of supportive services to meet the needs of those children.
The main activities undertaken to achieve these objects are the provision of:
- Partnerships with rugby clubs to engage with the issue of extreme child poverty
- Regular fundraising and awareness events
- Educational and school partnerships to secure access to funded primary and secondary education
- Mobilising donations from schools, clubs and other charitable organisations
- Rugby kit, including boots and trainers, and other clothing items
- Weekly nutritious meals, fruit and clean water
- Recruitment and development of World Rugby qualified coaches and co-ordinators
- Weekly structured training sessions running on Sundays
- A daily Homework Hub during school terms
- Transport to the playing fields from the Kibera slums
- Access to clean and safe facilities
- An Ambassadors' Programme to help sustain and develop the KRDA
- Medical treatment and medicines for the wellbeing of the children
- Assistance in crisis school fee circumstances
Our Mission
Our mission is to connect with rugby unions, national teams, local league rugby clubs and schools; to recruit and engage ambassadors who will champion and promote the upliftment of children out of extreme poverty through sport; and to connect each child to a rugby family for their basic needs of food, education, healthcare and wider welfare. Our aim is to grow the programme from the current cohort of up to 198 Kibera and slum children to 1,000 children, and to recruit additional coaches who will train and develop the children to a level of proficiency.
Vision
We have the principal aim of uplifting the children and youth of Kibera out of poverty and providing them with the opportunity to realise their individual worth. The aim is to impart positive life and social skills and to aid the development of the whole person physically, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually.
We want to provide healthy role models and life skills through positive sports coaching, and to establish peer relationships that demonstrate alternative conduct and positive behaviour patterns for the youth, helping them avoid a descent into antisocial and destructive behaviour.
Our medium-term vision is to grow the impact of the programme from up to 198 Kibera and slum children to 1,000 children, and to recruit and train additional coaches. We want to provide primary and secondary extra tuition classes for those aged 7 to 14 and 15 to 19. Raising their scores and grades changes their future educational opportunities, since with improved results the Ministry of Education will offer them places at higher quality secondary schools or universities. We aspire to be a beacon of hope for the boys and girls of Kibera, building the belief that their lives are not destined to be lived in poverty.

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 29 NOVEMBER 2025
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Activities and achievements
The trustees have paid due regard to guidance issued by the Charity Commission in deciding what activities the charity should undertake, and to the Commission's guidance on public benefit in preparing this report.
The principal objective is providing children aged 5 to 19 from resource-poor communities and disadvantaged backgrounds with the opportunity to access, train and participate in the game of rugby, through tag rugby and contact rugby training at the Harlequins and Rugby Football Union of East Africa grounds in Nairobi. The training is overseen and managed by World Rugby certified coaches and facilitators drawn from leading rugby clubs in Nairobi. At the year end, nine coaches held World Rugby Level 1 certification and one, Simon Odongo, held Level 2.
During the year the programme reached a maximum of 198 children from Kibera, of whom 112 were boys and 86 were girls. Average attendance across the year was approximately 150 children, comprising around 100 boys and 50 girls. The programme provides a development framework for children from the poorest communities, through which they learn essential social and life skills, with the goal of helping them move out of harsh conditions towards a brighter future.
The charity has a Kenya-based sister partner, The Kings Rugby Development Academy Kenya Limited, a Kenyan registered charitable company founded on 8 May 2016 by Stuart and James McGreevy. The Kenyan partner provides the local management and delivery of the programme in Nairobi.
