Notes to the Financial Statements

for the Period Ended 30 June 2026

  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts and value added taxes. Turnover includes revenue earned from the sale of goods and from the rendering of services. Turnover from the sale of goods is recognised when the significant risks and rewards of ownership of the goods have transferred to the buyer. Turnover from the rendering of services is recognised by reference to the stage of completion of the contract. The stage of completion of a contract is measured by comparing the costs incurred for work performed to date to the total estimated contract costs.

    Other accounting policies

A current tax liability is recognised for the tax payable on the taxable profit of the current and past periods. A current tax asset is recognised in respect of a tax loss that can be carried back to recover tax paid in a previous period. Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences between the recognition of income and expenses in the financial statements and their inclusion in tax assessments. Unrelieved tax losses and other deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits. Deferred tax is measured using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the reporting date and that are expected to apply to the reversal of the timing difference, except for revalued land and investment property where the tax rate that applies to the sale of the asset is used. Current and deferred tax assets and liabilities are not discounted.

COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

THE SOCIAL SANCTUARY PROJECT CIC

Company Number: 14201263 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 30 June 2026

Company activities and impact

During the financial year, The Social Sanctuary Project CIC continued to pursue its community interest objectives of supporting young people through the provision of safe, inclusive and supportive opportunities within the community. The primary focus of the year was on seeking funding and volunteer support to enable the continuation of the organisation's activities. The Directors explored a range of grant funding and partnership opportunities; however, the fundraising environment remained extremely challenging and the organisation was unsuccessful in securing sufficient funding to sustain its operations. In addition, the company experienced significant challenges in recruiting and retaining volunteers with the appropriate skills, experience and safeguarding suitability required to support young people safely and effectively. Whilst the Directors remained committed to the organisation's aims, they were also constrained by limited capacity to devote the level of time required to fundraising and organisational development. As a result of these factors, the company was unable to deliver activities at the level originally intended during the reporting period. After careful consideration of the financial position, volunteer capacity and future viability of the organisation, the Directors concluded that the CIC was no longer sustainable and made the decision to close the company. Although community activity during the year was limited, the Directors explored all reasonable opportunities to secure the future of the organisation before reaching this decision and remained committed to achieving positive outcomes for young people throughout the period. (If applicable, please just state “A social audit report covering these points is attached”).

Transfer of assets

The company held no significant assets during the financial year. Remaining low-value activity resources, including sports equipment and craft materials, were transferred for community benefit. The estimated value of these items was minimal.
