During the financial year, Gryffs Mind Space (GMS) provided free counselling and holistic therapy to young people, adults and their families who were experiencing difficulties affecting their mental health and wellbeing. The service supported people facing a range of challenges, including suicidal thoughts and feelings, bereavement and loss, addiction, neurodivergence, stress and other difficult life circumstances. Through one-to-one therapeutic support, GMS provided a safe and confidential space where people could receive support without the financial barrier of having to pay for private therapy. GMS also provided regular drop-in wellbeing sessions, giving people an opportunity to spend time in a safe and supportive environment focusing on breathing, gentle movement and releasing stress. These sessions offered an accessible way for people to look after their wellbeing, connect with others and reduce feelings of stress and isolation. During the year, approximately 30–40 people accessed the one-to-one therapy service, with a similar number attending the drop-in sessions. The work was funded primarily through National Lottery funding, supplemented by donations from members of the public. The activities benefited the community by increasing access to mental health and wellbeing support for people who may otherwise have struggled to access or afford appropriate services. GMS provided early and ongoing support to individuals and families experiencing difficult circumstances, helping people to feel supported, listened to and less isolated.
Prior to applying for National Lottery Awards for All funding, Gryffs Mind Space carried out a community consultation to understand local views about the need for accessible mental health and wellbeing support. The consultation received 80 responses, with respondents strongly indicating that there was a need for the type of support and services provided by Gryffs Mind Space. The feedback helped inform the development of the project and supported the decision to seek funding to continue and expand the service. The consultation provided valuable evidence of community need and helped ensure that the activities delivered by Gryffs Mind Space were responsive to the needs and experiences of local people.
