COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

NEW PAPERS CIC

Company Number: 16130033 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 December 2025

Company activities and impact

New Papers benefits the community by providing an open, barrier-free platform for new writers and artists. Submissions to the magazine are rolling and open indefinitely with no entry criteria, giving emerging and unpublished writers of fiction and poetry, who might otherwise struggle to access traditional publishing routes, a genuine opportunity to be published. In the 2025 financial year, we ran four public events, each pairing the sequential live performance of a new issue with a newly commissioned artist, who designed the performance setting and produced a representative collage published as a card. This gave four early-career visual artists opportunities and public exposure for their work, alongside the writers and poets featured in each issue. We also extended our community reach through collaborations with gallery Maximillian William and the Soho Reading Series, and by taking part in art book fairs such as Offprint, connecting our writers and artists with new audiences beyond our existing readership. Our publication is stocked at over 20 independent bookshops and cultural institutions across the UK and internationally (including Barcelona, Lisbon, and Toronto), supporting the independent bookshop and small-press ecosystem and making new literary work accessible to readers in multiple countries.

Consultation with stakeholders

New Papers' stakeholders include the writers and poets who submit and are published in the magazine, the artists commissioned to design each issue's live performance, our readers, our event and exhibition collaborators (including gallery Maximillian William, the Soho Reading Series, and Offprint art book fair), and our stockists. Consultation with these stakeholders has taken place informally throughout the year, through ongoing conversations with writers and readers, and through discussions with our collaborating partners at events and exhibitions. This feedback has directly informed decisions including [e.g. how we structure our open submissions process, which artists and venues we work with, and how we plan events]. As a result, in 2025 we continued our policy of unrestricted rolling submissions with no entry criteria, and expanded our collaborations to include new partners such as Maximillian William, the Soho Reading Series, and Offprint.
