Tangible fixed assets and depreciation
Tangible fixed assets are stated at cost less accumulated depreciation. Cost includes all costs directly attributable to bringing the asset into working condition for its intended use, including directly attributable employee costs. Depreciation is charged from the date an asset is available for use, on a straight-line basis over its expected useful life as follows: Leasehold improvements - over the shorter of the lease term and useful life; Fixtures, fittings and equipment - 3 - 10 years. At 30 September 2025 the theatre was under construction and had not been brought into use; accordingly no depreciation has been charged in the period.
Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, excluding discounts, rebates, value added tax and other sales taxes. Turnover from the sale of goods is recognised when goods have been delivered to customers such that risks and rewards of ownership have transferred to them. Turnover from the rendering of services is recognised by reference to the stage of completion of the contract. The stage of completion of a contract is measured by comparing the costs incurred for work performed to date to the total estimated contract costs.
The company has net current liabilities of £11.6m and net liabilities of £34k at 30 September 2025, principally due to amounts owed to its parent undertaking, Capitol Stage Limited, which funded the construction of the theatre. The theatre opened on 20 October 2025. Capitol Stage Limited (company number 15851325) has confirmed in writing that it will continue to provide financial support to the company and will not seek repayment of amounts owed to it for at least twelve months from the date of approval of these financial statements, unless the company has sufficient funds to do so. The directors therefore consider it appropriate to prepare the financial statements on a going concern basis.
