Structure, governance and management
The charitable company is a company limited by guarantee, incorporated on 26 June 2023 and registered as a charity with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (Charity Number SC054610 ) on 29 September 2025. The company was established under a Memorandum of Association which established the objects and powers of the charitable company and is governed under its Articles of Association.
Membership shall be open to any interested person who wishes to support the aims and activities of the company. Trustees shall consider each application at the first trustees' meeting which is held after receipt of the application. The trustees shall, within a reasonable time after the meeting, notify the applicant of their decision on the application.
A person is not eligible to be appointed as a trustee unless he or she is a member of the charity. At each AGM the members may elect any member who is willing to be a trustee. The trustees may at any time appoint any member to be a trustee.
Objectives and activities
Drams in the Field's main purpose is to share and educate in the field of traditional celtic music and arts by holding an annual music festival. The company's purposes are: to provide or advance the provision of live music and arts events, which will be available to members of the Community and public at large with the object of improving the conditions of life of the Community; and to advance the provisions for educational opportunities in the Community relating to music and the arts, thus preserving folk tradition in the Community.
Achievements and performance
During the year, Drams in the Field continued to develop its programme of traditional music events in the lead up to the main festival. Performances included Fras, Wayward Jane (in association with Seall), and Duncan Chisholm, each contributing to our aim of widening access to Celtic music and supporting both established and emerging artists.
The inaugural Drams in the Field Music Festival took place on 5 July 2025. Despite challenging weather conditions, the event was well attended and warmly received. Audiences enjoyed performances from Face the West, Carnan, Fras, An Dannsa Dub, West Loch Ceilidh Band, Skirlin, Wayward Jane, and a series of informal sessions hosted at the Glenelg Inn, the Isle of Skye Ferry Shore Station, and Dun Brewing. Ticket sales were strong, community engagement was high, and feedback from attendees and performers was overwhelmingly positive.
The trustees concluded that the festival successfully fulfilled the charity's objectives of promoting traditional music, enriching community life, and providing educational and cultural opportunities. On this basis, the trustees intend to repeat and further develop the festival in 2026.
Financial review
The net income for the year was £23,934. The net assets at the year end were £23,934, all of which related to unrestricted funds.
Policy on reserves
The charity's reserves consist of its unrestricted funds, which are freely available to support our ongoing activities and to provide financial resilience. The trustees aim to build and maintain adequate reserves to ensure the stability of the organisation and to allow us to respond to opportunities or challenges as they arise.
The charity intends to grow its unrestricted reserves through continued fundraising and through operational surpluses generated by events, including future festivals and other community activities. The trustees review the level of reserves regularly to ensure they remain appropriate for the charity's needs and risk profile.
Risks
The trustees have identified several risks relevant to the charity's operation of an annual music festival, including financial pressures and income volatility; event delivery risks such as weather, supplier failure and health & safety; governance capacity; safeguarding responsibilities; cyber and data security; reputational risks associated with public events; and the need for strong financial controls. These risks reflect wider sector concerns highlighted by the Charity Commission and are monitored throughout the year.
Small company provisions
This report has been prepared in accordance with the provisions applicable to companies entitled to the small companies exemption.
The trustees' annual report was approved on 25 September 2026 and signed on behalf of the board of trustees by:

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of Drams in the Field Ltd
Period from 1 July 2024 to 30 September 2025
I report on the financial statements for the period ended 30 September 2025, as set out on pages 5 to 11.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees (who are also the directors of the company for the purposes of company law) are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1)(a) to (c) of the 2006 Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1)(c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner's report
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
- to keep accounting records in accordance with section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations, and
- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Regulation 8 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations
have not been met, or
(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

2. Statement of compliance
These financial statements have been prepared in compliance with FRS 102, 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and the Republic of Ireland', the Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (Charities SORP (FRS 102)) and the Companies Act 2006.
3. Accounting policies
Basis of preparation
The financial statements have been prepared on the historical cost basis. The financial statements are prepared in sterling, which is the functional currency of the entity.
Going concern
There are no material uncertainties about the charity's ability to continue.
Income tax
The taxation expense represents the aggregate amount of current tax recognised in the reporting period. Current tax is recognised on taxable income or expenditure for the current and past periods. Current tax is measured at the amounts of tax expected to pay or recover using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted at the reporting date.
Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees to further any of the charity's purposes. Designated funds are unrestricted funds earmarked by the trustees for particular future project or commitment. Restricted funds are subjected to restrictions on their expenditure declared by the donor or through the terms of an appeal, and fall into one of two sub-classes: restricted income funds or endowment funds.
Income
All income is included in the statement of financial activities when entitlement has passed to the charity, it is probable that the economic benefits associated with the transaction will flow to the charity and the amount can be reliably measured. The following specific policies are applied to particular categories of income: - income from donations or grants is recognised when there is evidence of entitlement to the gift, receipt is probable and its amount can be measured reliably. - income from contracts for the supply of services is recognised with the delivery of the contracted service. This is classified as unrestricted funds unless there is a contractual requirement for it to be spent on a particular purpose and returned if unspent, in which case it may be regarded as restricted.
Expenditure
Expenditure is recognised on an accruals basis as a liability is incurred. Expenditure includes any VAT which cannot be fully recovered, and is classified under headings of the statement of financial activities to which it relates:
- expenditure on charitable activities includes all costs incurred by a charity in undertaking activities that further its charitable aims for the benefit of its beneficiaries, including those support costs and costs relating to the governance of the charity apportioned to charitable activities.
All costs are allocated to expenditure categories reflecting the use of the resource. Direct costs attributable to a single activity are allocated directly to that activity. Shared costs are apportioned between the activities they contribute to on a reasonable, justifiable and consistent basis.
Stocks
Stocks are measured at the lower of cost and estimated selling price less costs to complete and sell. Cost includes all costs of purchase, costs of conversion and other costs incurred in bringing the stock to its present location and condition.
Financial instruments
A financial asset or a financial liability is recognised only when the entity becomes a party to the contractual provisions of the instrument. Cash and cash equivalents in the statement of financial position comprise cash at bank and in hand held on demand. Bank overdrafts are shown within creditors due within one year. Trade debtors and creditors are measured at the undiscounted amounts receivable from the customer or payable to a supplier, which is normally the invoiced price. Trade debtors are assessed at the end of each reporting period for the objective evidence of impairment. If such evidence is found, an impairment loss is recognised in the statement of income and retained earnings.
