Surfability UK CIC provides surfing lessons and experiences to people in the community who are disabled or have learning difficulties and also the Parents, carers and siblings of the participants. Surfability UK aims to make surfing as accessable and inclusive as possible to people with disabilities and learning difficulties and has done so to great effect over the period covered by this report. Over the course of the year we worked with around 1600 people. It was a difficult year as demand for our services grew but our funding was reduced due to the completion of our National Lottery funded project. Surfability currently runs sessions for between 50 and 70 people per week and has been building a strong community through providing access to the beach and through people volunteering to assist with sessions. We have provided surfing experiences for people with many kinds of disability. Participants this year have included; people with autistic spectrum conditions and Asperger’s syndrome, people with Angelmans syndrome, people with Downs syndrome, people with dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADHD, people with cerebral palsy, people with dwarfism, blind and partially sighted people, amputees, people with athrogryposis, people with kyphoscoliosis, people with diplegia, hemiplegia and quadriplegia. We continue to improve our ofering for wheelchair users. Having four seated tandem surfboards for wheelchair users who cannott sit up unaided has allowed us to greatly improve inclusion by wheelchair users, as well as having multiple wheelchair users in the water at the same time. We have been working alonside Swansea Council to assist with hiring out (for free) their beach wheelchairs. This means that anyone from the public who needs to use a chair can access one easily. We saw lots of elderly people enjoying the beach this year thanks to this access. Our bespoke wellbeing index continues to help us show the impact of our activities.
The stakeholders of Surfability UK are the participants in surfing sessions who have disabilities and or learning difficulties, their parents and carers, also groups and schools that provide support for these people. We engage with our community through ongoing dialogue, feedback, and collaboration to ensure our services are tailored to their needs. We work closely with surfers, families, disability organisations, and healthcare professionals to refine our approach. Regular surveys, testimonials, and focus groups help us assess impact and adapt our lessons, equipment, and training accordingly. Our social media provides an interactive space where we gather insights, answer questions, and foster a sense of community. By continuously listening and evolving, we ensure that our sessions remain accessible, meaningful, and responsive to those we serve. Our work directly supports individuals with disabilities by removing barriers to sport and providing a fully inclusive surfing experience. Through our previous National Lottery project, we have developed well-being indexes to measure our impact and inform our annual reports. We run focus groups, gathering direct feedback from surfers, families, and disability organisations, ensuring their voices shape our programs. Our strong community engagement ensures that our lessons, equipment, and coaching continually evolve to meet the needs of our surfers. Each session we deliver is based on ‘Pen Portraits’ of our participants which detail their support needs. We meet our participants where they are and adapt the activity to them.
The aggregate amount of emoluments paid to or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services is provided in our accounts. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for the director's loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
No transfer of assets other than for full consideration
