Year Ending: 30 November 2025

Company activities and impact

During the financial year, Nottingham Hoods Community CIC continued to provide accessible basketball opportunities for children, young people, and adults within the local community, with a pathway from beginners and recreational participation through to local league and National League competition. In addition to its core basketball activities, Nottingham Hoods Community CIC also operated Mapperley Sports Village, subleased from The Wells Academy / Greenwood Academies Trust. Through this venue, the CIC facilitated and hired out facilities for a wide range of community activities, including football sessions, roller skating, dancing, and other sports, further widening community engagement in physical activity. The CIC delivered basketball sessions within schools and as after-school activities, providing opportunities for young people to be introduced to basketball and develop their skills in a supportive environment. We also delivered weekly community training sessions, allowing participants of different ages and abilities to regularly take part in basketball regardless of whether they wished to play competitively. For players wishing to progress into competitive basketball, we provided local league playing opportunities for Under-12 players, giving younger participants their first experience of organised competitive basketball. For players progressing beyond local competition, the CIC provided opportunities through three junior National League teams, supporting approximately 40 young players. These teams trained twice a week and provided a structured pathway for players seeking to develop their basketball skills and compete at a higher level. The CIC also operated an amateur Senior Men's Basketball England National League team of 12 players, which trained twice a week and provided a further pathway for players progressing into senior competitive basketball. In addition to providing sporting opportunities, the CIC recognised that the cost of participating in organised basketball can be a barrier for some families. During the year, we therefore established an Opportunities Fund to provide financial assistance to players who might otherwise be unable to participate because of financial circumstances. The fund was established to help reduce financial barriers and ensure that participation and progression in basketball was not restricted solely by a player's ability to meet the associated costs. Overall, the CIC's activities provided a structured pathway from school and community participation, through local junior competition, to junior and senior National League basketball, alongside broader sports delivery at Mapperley Sports Village. Through these combined activities, the CIC sought to increase participation in physical activity, develop sporting skills and confidence, encourage teamwork and social inclusion, and provide opportunities for individuals to progress within sport according to their interests and ability.

Consultation with stakeholders

We regularly communicated with participants, parents/guardians and the Wells Academy to ensure that they are informed about the opportunities available through Nottingham Hoods Community CIC. This includes clear information regarding training places and times, participation costs and available playing opportunities. For players progressing through the National League trial process, we provide presentations to parents and guardians explaining the process, expected commitment, training requirements and associated costs. This gives families an opportunity to understand the requirements before committing to participation. We also provide information about the Opportunities Fund, including who can apply and the support available. Successful National League players and their families are provided with this information by email, together with a link to an online application form for those wishing to apply for financial assistance. This approach enables players and their families to make informed decisions about participation and provides a clear route for raising financial or practical barriers to participation. Feedback and questions received from participants and families are used to inform communication and the delivery of our programmes.
