Company activities and impact

Wellingborough Eco Group was set up to facilitate activities which are all aimed at protecting the environment and helping local people. The group became a Community Interest Company on the 7th of January 2025 and during the year 2025-2026 has run the following projects: Swap Shop, accepting donations of goods and allowing members and the public to swap them for other things they don’t need, or to take them for a small donation. Food Sharers, collecting surplus food from supermarkets and allowing the public to take what they need. Some of the food has also been used to provide hot meals at the Happy Cafe and Warm Space the group ran, through the winter months. The above projects have helped many local residents of limited means to be able to access food and clothes in an era of rising prices and have also saved food and numerous items from landfill, thus reducing CO2 and methane emissions from landfill and the manufacture of new products. The group’s regular Litter Picking is chosen by the litter pickers, these events have helped to keep the local area clean and tidy and the CLEAN Team have been active in schools, educating young people about litter and pollution. The Repair Cafe has helped repair many electrical, electronic, textile and various other types of item for local people, to keep them out of landfill and again reduce emissions. The Community Allotment and Nature Rangers projects and Tree Planting sessions have helped local people learn to grow food, have access to nature to improve their mental health and plant trees to help sequester CO2. The group has held craft fairs to help promote local artists and crafters. During the year, we appointed an Activities Co-ordinator to help organise and run all the above activities. We also moved from our base at Glamis Hall to Swanspool Pavilion, which gave the group more space for our activities.

Consultation with stakeholders

The stakeholders of the company are the volunteers, who help to run and participate in all the projects, members of the group and the local public, who benefit from cleaner streets and parks because of our litter picking, and access to food, clothes and household items , and help with repairing broken items. The group engages with our members, volunteers and the general public through all the usual social media channels. Project Leaders and Directors talk to all volunteers and service users in the course of carrying out the various project activities and take note of and take action on feedback where it is practical to do so. The Committee is always open to new ideas that come within our remit and all our projects have grown out of members’ ideas.
