Statement of Trustees' Responsibilities
The trustees (who are also the directors of Arisaig Community Trust for the purposes of company law) are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
Company law requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year. Under company law the trustees must not approve the financial statement unless they are satisfied that they give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company and of the incoming resources and application of resources, including the income and expenditure, of the charitable company for that period. In preparing the financial statements the trustees are required to:
  • select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
  • observe the methods and principles in the Charity SORP;
  • make judgments and accounting estimates that are reasonable and prudent; and
  • prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the company will continue in business.
The trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at anytime the financial position of the charitable company and to enable them to ensure that the accounts comply with the Charities and Trustees Investment (Scotland) Act 2005, the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 and the Companies Act 2006. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the company and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

The trustees are responsible for the maintenance and integrity of the corporate and financial information included on the charitable company's website. Legislation in the United Kingdom governing the preparation and dissemination of financial statements may differ from legislation in other jurisdictions.
Chair’s Report
I am pleased to present the Chair’s Report for Arisaig Community Trust for the year under review. This has been a year of significant achievement, hard work, and reflection, with notable progress across several major projects alongside a renewed focus on strengthening the Trust for the future.
Projects and Activities
One of the most positive highlights of the year was the successful renovation of the Playpark. This project was led by a dedicated group of local volunteers and funded through a combination of grants and generous donations. The renewed Playpark is a valuable community asset and a strong example of what can be achieved through local commitment and collaboration.
The Trust also undertook a feasibility study into the potential community buy-out of the Church of Scotland building. Funds were successfully raised to commission a comprehensive feasibility study, including architectural drawings, and further donations enabled the Trust to submit an offer to purchase the church. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, the Trust’s bid was ultimately unsuccessful. While this was a disappointing outcome, the project demonstrated strong community support and provided valuable learning that will inform future opportunities.
At the Land, Sea and Island Centre, the Board has placed a strong emphasis on cost reduction and improving financial resilience. A number of important changes were implemented during the year, including the Centre Manager moving into a volunteer role, more careful management of heating costs, and closing the Centre during quieter months. These actions have significantly reduced expenditure and have helped move the Centre back towards a position where it is generating a profit.
The Trust’s £1.8M housing project was successfully completed during the year, with tenants now living in the new properties. The level of demand was clear, with over 30 applications received for just six homes, underlining the continuing unmet need for affordable housing within the village. This project represents a major milestone for the Trust and delivers lasting benefit to the community.
Looking Ahead
As we move into the next year, the Board’s main focus will be on strengthening the foundations of the Trust. Key priorities include:
• Building the Board, by increasing the number of Trustees and bringing in a wider range of skills and expertise.
• Improving resilience and sustainability, by exploring ways to generate increased income from the assets managed by the Trust.
• Strengthening operations and governance, ensuring that the Trust is well-run, compliant, and prepared for future opportunities.
• Provision of more affordable homes, adding to the number already built.
The anticipated sale of three self-build plots at an affordable price is expected to generate additional cash, placing Arisaig Community Trust in a stronger financial position for the year ahead.
Thanks
I would like to thank my fellow Trustees for their time, commitment, and support throughout the year, as well as the many volunteers, donors, and community members who continue to contribute to the work of the Trust. Their efforts are vital to the success and sustainability of Arisaig Community Trust.
Small Company Rules
This report has been prepared in accordance with the special provisions relating to companies subject to the small companies regime within Part 15 of the Companies Act 2006.
The trustees' report was approved by the board of trustees and signed on its behalf by:

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of Arisaig Community Trust
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended 31 March 2026.
Responsibilities and Basis of Report
As the charity trustees of the Company (and also its directors for the purposes of company law), you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1) (a) to (c) of the 2006 Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under section 44(1) (c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
My examination is carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.
Independent Examiner's Statement
Since the Charity has prepared its accounts on an accruals basis and is registered in Scotland your examiner must be a member of a body listed in Regulation 11(2) of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). I confirm that I am qualified to undertake the examination because I am a member of , which is one of the listed bodies.

2.4. Tangible Fixed Assets and Depreciation
Tangible fixed assets are measured at cost less accumulated depreciation and any accumulated impairment losses. Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost of the fixed assets, less their estimated residual value, over their expected useful lives on the following bases:
Freehold 2% Straight line
Plant & Machinery 25% Straight line
Fixtures & Fittings 25% Straight line
Computer Equipment 20% reducing Balance
2.5. Stocks and Work in Progress
Stocks and work in progress are valued at the lower of cost and net realisable value after making due allowance for obsolete and slow-moving stocks.
Cost is determined using the first-in, first-out method. Cost includes all direct costs and an appropriate proportion of fixed and variable overheads.
Work in progress is reflected in the accounts on a contract by contract basis by recording turnover and related costs as contract activity progresses.
At the end of each reporting period stocks are assessed for impairment. If an item of stock is impaired, the identified stock is reduced to its selling price less costs to complete and sell and an impairment charge is recognised in the statement of financial activities. Where a reversal of the impairment is required the impairment charge is reversed, up to the original impairment loss, and is recognised as a credit in the statement of financial activities.
2.6. Cash and Cash Equivalents
Cash and cash equivalents are basic financial assets and include cash in hand and deposits held at call with banks, other short-term highly liquid investments that mature in no more than three months from the date of acquisition and are readily convertible to a known amount of cash with insignificant risk of change in value, and bank overdrafts.
