| 2. | ACCOUNTING POLICIES |
Basis of preparing the financial statements
The company's functional currency is Sterling (£).
Turnover
Turnover represents income derived from the Federation's ordinary activities, excluding VAT and other amounts collected on behalf of third parties.
Turnover principally comprises membership subscriptions, competition and event income, grants and other funding, sponsorship and donations where these arise in the course of the Federation's activities.
Membership subscriptions are recognised as income in the period to which the membership relates. Amounts received in advance in respect of future membership periods are deferred and recognised as income in the relevant period.
Income from competitions, events, courses and other activities is recognised when the relevant activity has taken place and the Federation has an unconditional entitlement to the income.
Grant and funding income is recognised when there is reasonable assurance that the Federation will comply with the conditions attaching to the funding and that the funding will be received. Where funding relates to specific expenditure or activities to be undertaken in a future period, the income is recognised in the period in which the related conditions are satisfied and the relevant expenditure or activity is undertaken, where appropriate.
Donations are recognised when the Federation has entitlement to the funds, receipt is probable and the amount can be measured reliably.
Sponsorship income is recognised over the period to which the sponsorship relates or, where relating to a specific event or activity, when that event or activity takes place.
Intangible assets
Intangible assets are initially measured at cost. After initial recognition, intangible assets are measured at cost less any accumulated amortisation and any accumulated impairment losses.
Development costs have been amortised evenly over their estimated useful life of 3 years.
Tangible fixed assets
| Fixtures and fittings | - |
Stocks
Stocks are valued at the lower of cost and net realisable value, after making due allowance for obsolete and slow moving items.
Stocks, where applicable, comprise medals, clothing, equipment and other goods held for resale or distribution and are stated at the lower of cost and estimated selling price less costs to complete and sell.

| 2. | ACCOUNTING POLICIES - continued |
Taxation
Taxation for the year comprises current and deferred tax. Tax is recognised in the Statement of Income and Retained Earnings, except to the extent that it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity.
Current or deferred taxation assets and liabilities are not discounted.
Current tax is recognised at the amount of tax payable using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the balance sheet date.
Deferred tax
Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the balance sheet date.
Timing differences arise from the inclusion of income and expenses in tax assessments in periods different from those in which they are recognised in financial statements. Deferred tax is measured using tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the year end and that are expected to apply to the reversal of the timing difference.
Unrelieved tax losses and other deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits.
Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits
The company operates a defined contribution pension scheme. Contributions payable to the company's pension scheme are charged to profit or loss in the period to which they relate.
Going concern
The financial statements have been prepared on a going concern basis. The members of the governing body have considered the Federation's financial position, its expected level of membership income, grant funding and other income and its anticipated expenditure for the foreseeable future. On this basis, the governing body considers that the Federation has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future.
