Buzz Cinema is a community film festival and film hub that celebrates and supports independent and local filmmakers and brings people together through the events. During the financial year 2025–2026, our activities have benefited the local community in the following ways: We organised 8 film and community events throughout the financial tax year, providing opportunities for local residents to experience independent high-quality short films, of which some were locally produced and to engage with cinema in a welcoming community setting. We offered 2 high-quality workshops in the field of filmmaking: Filmmaking basics and copyright in film, which were very well attended and offered people to further develop their skills and knowledge. Our events took place across 7 different local venues, helping us reach different parts of the community, support local venues and introduce audiences to spaces and businesses in the local area. This has resulted in strengthening connections between local organisations, creatives and audiences, contributing to a more active and connected cultural community. We sold a total of 169 tickets across our events, with an average attendance of approximately 21 people per event, demonstrating consistent local interest in our programme. Our events provided opportunities for people to come together, socialise, connect and learn with others through a shared interest in film, helping to reduce social isolation and strengthen community connections and encourage learning new skills. We have provided opportunities for local filmmakers and creatives to showcase their work, contributing to the development of the local creative community and encouraging participation in filmmaking and the wider arts and providing audiences with access to films that may not otherwise be shown through mainstream cinema and helping to raise the profile of new creative talent. The festival events have been organised with the support of 6 volunteers, providing local people with opportunities to contribute their time, develop practical event organising and creative skills, and play an active role in delivering cultural activities within the community. Through the bi-weekly film club we have created 2 short films, encouraging film club members to learn and develop their skills in different departments of the production. We have organised 22 film club sessions in the financial year, ranging from film professionals sharing their knowledge, to filmmaking workshops and socials offering a moment for people to socialise, learn, and be creative. Every sessions we have between 6 and 10 members joining us. In summary: through our programme of events, we have helped make independent cinema more accessible to local audiences, creating a space where people can discover new films, support filmmakers and participate in cultural activities within their own community.
