Cross Sports Futures CIC is a community interest company using sport, particularly tennis, to improve opportunities, participation, confidence and wellbeing for children, young people and adults, with a particular focus on people living in disadvantaged and underserved communities. During the financial year, the company continued to operate and develop tennis provision at Bidston Sports and Activity Centre, Valley Road, Birkenhead, Wirral. The centre provides indoor tennis and coaching in an area of significant deprivation. Cross Sports Futures CIC reopened the existing indoor tennis courts and has continued to build a sustainable programme of tennis activity for the local community. The programme includes junior coaching, adult social tennis and beginner sessions, school programmes, holiday camps, performance training, tournaments and opportunities for children and young people to progress through the tennis pathway. The centre also hosts competitive events, including LTA tournaments and other recognised competitions, helping local players to compete without having to travel long distances. Particular emphasis has been placed on increasing participation among children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. The company has worked with local primary schools, introducing children to tennis and inviting those showing enthusiasm and potential to attend further coaching and holiday activities. Free or subsidised opportunities and equipment have been used where appropriate to reduce financial barriers. The company has also developed programmes to encourage girls and women to take part in tennis, supported the development of female coaches, and provided opportunities for teenagers to remain active and develop skills through regular weekend and school-based activities. Cross Sports Futures CIC has developed an LTA 10U Performance Programme Enhanced at the centre, providing an accessible performance pathway for young players from Wirral, Chester and North Wales. The programme supports talented young players while retaining a strong community focus. The company has also supported inclusive participation, including opportunities for disabled and neurodivergent children and work with community partners to identify appropriate equipment and coaching support. Income generated through the programmes has been reinvested into the children's programme, coaching, activities, equipment, tournaments and opportunities for the community. The company continues to seek partnerships and funding that enable more people to participate in sport and benefit from the physical, social and personal development that sport can provide.
The company's stakeholders include children and young people participating in its programmes, parents and families, adult participants, schools, coaches and volunteers, local community organisations, tennis governing bodies, local councillors and public-sector partners. Stakeholders have been consulted through direct conversations, feedback from parents and participants, school discussions, meetings with coaches and partners, and feedback following coaching sessions, camps and tournaments. The company has also maintained communication with the LTA, Cheshire Tennis and local representatives regarding the development and sustainability of tennis provision at Bidston. Feedback has helped shape the programme, including additional junior and adult sessions, holiday activities, girls' and women's tennis opportunities, performance provision and inclusive activities. Feedback has also supported the company's focus on maintaining affordable access and providing opportunities for children who may otherwise have limited access to organised sport. The company has responded to demand by expanding coaching provision, developing new programmes, supporting new coaches and volunteers, and increasing competitive and performance opportunities for players.
