Turnover comprises revenue from the provision of short-term holiday letting accommodation and is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of trade discounts allowed to guests. Turnover excludes amounts collected on behalf of third parties.
Letting Income
Revenue from short term lettings is recognised over the period of each guest’s stay. As the accommodation service is provided evenly throughout the stay, revenue is recognised on a straight-line basis according to the number of nights falling within the reporting period. Amounts received in advance for stays commencing after the reporting date, including booking deposits, are recognised as deferred income within creditors.
Turnover is recognised on a gross basis, before deduction of the agent’s commission. Agency commission, including irrecoverable VAT, is recognised within cost of sales in the same period as the related letting income.
