Accounting policies

Summary of significant accounting policies and key accounting estimates

The principal accounting policies applied in the preparation of these financial statements are set out below. These policies have been consistently applied to all the years presented, unless otherwise stated.

Statement of compliance

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Financial Reporting Standard 102 Section 1A - 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Companies Act 2006.

General information and basis of accounting

The limited liability partnership is incorporated in England & Wales under the Limited Liability Partnership Act 2000. The address of the registered office is given on the limited liability partnership information page. The nature of the limited liability partnership’s operations and its principal activities are given in the members’ report.

These financial statements have been prepared using the historical cost convention except that as disclosed in the accounting policies certain items are shown at fair value.

The functional currency of Niveus Capital Management LLP is considered to be pounds sterling because that is the currency of the primary economic environment in which the limited liability partnership operates. Foreign operations are included in accordance with the policies set out below.

Revenue recognition

Revenue is recognised to the extent that the limited liability partnership obtains the right to consideration in exchange for its performance. Revenue is measured at the fair value of the consideration received, excluding discounts, rebates, VAT and other sales tax or duty.

Members' remuneration and division of profits

A member's non-discretionary distribution is accounted for as remuneration charged as an expense in the profit and loss account after arriving at "profit for the financial period before members' remuneration and profit shares".

A member's discretionary share in the profit or the loss for the period is accounted for as an allocation of profits. Unallocated profits and losses are included within "other reserves".

Foreign currency

Monetary assets and liabilities denominated in foreign currencies are translated at the exchange rate ruling at the balance sheet date. Transactions in foreign currencies are translated at the exchange rate ruling at the date of transaction. Profits and losses arising from foreign currency transactions are dealt with through the profit and loss account.

At each period end, foreign currency monetary items are translated using the closing rate. Non-monetary items measured at historic cost are translated using the exchange rate at the date of the transaction and non-monetary items measured at fair value are measured using the exchange rate when the fair value was determined.

Taxation

The taxation payable on the partnership's profits is the personal liability of the members.

Tangible fixed assets

Tangible fixed assets are stated at historical cost less accumulated depreciation. Depreciation is charged so as to allocate the cost of assets less their residual value over their estimated useful lives, using the straight line method.

Depreciation

Asset class

Depreciation method and rate

Computer equipment

3 years straight line

Fixed asset investments

Investments for which the fair value can be reliably measured are re-measured to fair value at each reporting date. Gains and losses on re-measurement are recognised in the profit and loss account.

Trade creditors

Trade creditors are obligations to pay for goods or services that have been acquired in the ordinary course of business from suppliers. Accounts payable are classified as current liabilities if the limited liability partnership does not have an unconditional right, at the end of the reporting period, to defer settlement of the creditor for at least twelve months after the reporting date. If there is an unconditional right to defer settlement for at least twelve months after the reporting date, they are presented as non-current liabilities.

Trade creditors are recognised initially at the transaction price and subsequently measured at amortised cost using the effective interest method.

Financial instruments

Classification

The LLP does not directly trade in financial instruments and all such instruments arise directly from operations.

All trade and other debtors are initially recognised at transaction value, as none contain in substance a financing transaction. Thereafter trade and other debtors are reviewed for impairment where there is objective evidence based on observable data that the balance may be impaired. The LLP does not hold collateral against its trade and other receivables so its exposure to credit risk is the net balance of trade and other debtors after allowance for impairment.

The LLP's cash holdings comprise on demand balances. All cash is held with banks with strong external credit ratings.

Trade and other creditors and accruals are initially recognised at transaction value as none represent a financing transaction. They are only derecognised when they are extinguished.

As the LLP only has short term receivables and payables, its net current asset position is a reasonable meausure of its liquidity at any given time.
