ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
1. Executive Summary & Overview
In 2025, most of our charitable work involved delivering our main project, UFO Steelband. The year presented significant structural and health-related challenges, yet through collective teamwork, strong governance, and strategic planning, the charity navigated these obstacles, secured a vibrant new home, and delivered a rich schedule of community performances.
2. Leadership, Resilience & Governance
The early part of 2025 was marked by ongoing leadership challenges following Artistic Director and Producer Fiona Hawthorne’s major double lung transplant in April 2024. Fiona remained out of action until July 2025 during an extended recovery period, returning just in time to lead preparations for Notting Hill Carnival.
During this period of reduced leadership capacity, the charity’s prior investment in resilience and organizational planning proved vital:
Trustee Planning & Contingencies: Previous contingency planning with the Trustees for potential leadership incapacity ensured a smooth transition during Fiona's absence.
Member Leadership: Building on the "Carnival Blueprint" created in 2024, one band member stepped into a leadership role and excelled.
Ethos & Teamwork: Grounded in our core charitable aims, UFO members demonstrated exceptional teamwork, ensuring continuity and operational stability throughout the first half of the year.
3. Premises & Panyard Relocation
A major operational hurdle occurred when Christ the Saviour Church unexpectedly increased the panyard rent overnight by 660%, shifting focus under new leadership toward commercial venue hire rather than community support.
New Home in Park Royal: The charity successfully negotiated a new panyard and instrument storage facility as part of The Republic of Park Royal.
Thriving Creative Hub: The relocation placed UFO Steelband in a collaborative community alongside local artists, makers, and fellow charities.
Community Welcome: We hosted a welcome party and concert at the new panyard to introduce the band to the North Acton and Park Royal communities.
4. Community Activities, Workshops & Gigs
Despite early constraints, UFO Steelband delivered a dynamic array of performances and workshops:
Carnival & Major Events
Notting Hill Carnival: Made a triumphant return to the road. This year’s parade offered transformative inclusion for several neurodiverse participants, with one autistic player describing it as "the best day of my life."
Luton International Carnival: Featured as a major highlight, playing for most of the day and establishing a new ongoing relationship as Luton Carnival’s primary steelband.
Carnival Launch: Hosted at The Foundry in North Acton.
Civic & Community Events
Mayor of Ealing: Performed at the inaugural dinner for the New Mayor of Ealing.
Republic of Park Royal Gigs: Participated in community events, including the Acton Christmas Fair.
Cultural & Community Celebrations: Performed for the Anglo Caribbean Society and played a community gig at Osterley Park.
Educational & Charitable Outreach
Spring Hallow Special School: Conducted a workshop and concert, advancing our core commitment to inclusive music education.
Chain of Hope Half Marathon: Performed in the Royal Parks to support the runners and charity event.
Long-standing Partnerships
Fox Carnival Ltd (Registered number: 07484712)
Report of the Trustees
for the Year Ended 31 December 2025
Chiswick Flower Market: Continued our ongoing relationship with performance gigs in May, July, and August.
5. Financial Health & Sustainability
Revenue Challenges: Due to reduced leadership capacity during the first half of the year, securing new commercial gigs and partnerships was difficult, resulting in very low income generation. Many of the gigs we played were non-paid community collaborations, which in line with our ethos and our charitable capacity, we were happy to play.
Prudent Financial Management: Expenditure exceeded income for 2025; however, thanks to funds saved from pausing participation in the 2024 Notting Hill Carnival, careful accounting enabled the charity to fully absorb the deficit and thrive.
Future Outlook: The charity remains in a stable financial position to carry forward operations into 2026.
6. Conclusion
Despite severe initial leadership challenges and an unexpected facility relocation, Fox Carnival and UFO Steelband emerged from 2025 stronger, more resilient, and more deeply integrated into the local creative community. With a permanent new panyard, empowered member leadership, and an unwavering commitment to accessibility and inclusion, we look forward to building on this momentum in 2026.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
The trustees have a reasonable expectation that the charity will continue in existence for the foreseeable future and have, therefore, used the going concern basis in preparing the financial statements.
The charity is dependent upon donations from members of the general public, from business associates, and from income generated by events. Income during the year was £13,131 (2024 - £21,259), representing a decrease compared to the prior year. However, this level of income was broadly consistent with the expenditure of £23,548 (2024 - £19,975) on charitable activities during the year.
The charity is committed to maintaining a practical balance of reserves consistent with future operating costs and ability to have available funds to support short term requirements.
FUTURE PLANS
The charity adopts a cautious and sustainable expenditure policy to support activities in pursuit of it's objectives.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

b) Going Concern
The trustees consider that there are no material uncertainties about the charitable company's ability to continue as a going concern. The trustees do not consider that there are any sources of estimation uncertainty at the reporting date that have a significant risk of causing a material adjustment to the carrying amounts of assets and liabilities within the next reporting period.
c) Accounting policies and estimates
The accounts present a true and fair view and no changes have been made to accounting estimates and policies during the reporting period. No material prior year errors have been identified in the reporting period.
