Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, excluding discounts, rebates, value added tax and other sales taxes.
Tangible fixed assets and depreciation
Tangible assets are included at cost less depreciation and impairment. Depreciation has been provided at the following rates in order to write off the assets over their estimated useful lives:
Land & buildings
16.66% straight line
Plant & machinery
33.33% straight line
Motor vehicles
20% straight line
Computer equipment
33.33% straight line
Intangible fixed assets (including purchased goodwill and patents) are included at cost less accumulated amortisation.
Capitalised development costs are initially recognised at cost and are subsequently measured at cost less accumulated amortisation and any accumulated impairment losses.
Amortisation is charged on a straight-line basis over the estimated useful life of the asset, which is considered to be five years, reflecting the period over which the economic benefits from the development are expected to be consumed by the entity.
Taxation for the year comprises current and deferred tax. Tax is recognised in the Income Statement, except to the extent that it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity.
Current or deferred taxation assets and liabilities are not discounted.
Current tax is recognised at the amount of tax payable using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the balance sheet date.

Notes to the Accounts
for the year ended 31 March 2026
Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the balance sheet date.
Timing differences arise from the inclusion of income and expenses in tax assessments in periods different from those in which they are recognised in financial statements. Deferred tax is measured using tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the year end and that are expected to apply to the reversal of the timing difference.
Unrelieved tax losses and other deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits.
The company operates a defined contribution pension scheme. Contributions payable to the company's pension scheme are charge to the profit & loss account in the period to which they relate.
Monetary assets and liabilities in foreign currencies are translated into sterling at the rates of exchange ruling at the balance sheet date. Transactions in foreign currencies are translated into sterling at the rates of exchange ruling at the date of the transaction. Exchange differences are taken into account in arriving at the operating profit.
Government grants and Grant income
Grants related to assets are recognised in income over the expected useful life of the related asset, on a basis consistent with the depreciation or amortisation of the asset to which the grant relates. Where the grant relates to expenditure that is capitalised as an intangible asset (e.g., development costs), the grant is recognised over the same amortisation period.
Grant income is presented as other income in the profit and loss account unless specific presentation is required by the grantor or another accounting policy.
Unspent grants at the reporting date, which are subject to performance conditions, are recognised as deferred income until the conditions are satisfied.
