Recycle-IT! collects unwanted computers, laptops and other electrical and electronic equipment from businesses, organisations and the community. Equipment suitable for reuse is securely processed, tested, refurbished and returned to use through affordable sales, donations and digital inclusion activity; equipment that cannot be reused is segregated for responsible recycling. The company also creates volunteering, training and work-placement opportunities, giving local people practical experience in IT refurbishment, recycling, digital skills and workplace development. During the year, Recycle-IT! continued developing its community-facing digital inclusion activity, including the Digital Den, alongside education and placement activity. These activities benefit the community by improving access to affordable technology and digital support, developing practical skills and employability, and extending the useful life of IT equipment while reducing electronic waste. The company continued to work with local community, education and business stakeholders in support of these aims.
The company’s stakeholders include local residents and service users, volunteers and placement learners, community organisations, education providers, businesses donating equipment, customers and other organisations involved in digital inclusion and responsible IT reuse and recycling. Stakeholders have been consulted through day-to-day conversations, feedback and surveys, volunteer and placement feedback, partner discussions and engagement around community delivery. Feedback has informed the continued development of induction and training, digital inclusion support, device distribution and workshop processes, with the aim of making services accessible, practical and responsive to community need.
