Nurdlecoasts Community Interest Company
Company No.11104046
Community Interest Company Report
For the year ended 31 December 2025
PART 1 - GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPANY'S ACTIVITIES AND IMPACT
During the reporting period, Nurdlecoasts CIC significantly expanded its operational capability and its work to prevent and remediate plastic and microplastic pollution within coastal and aquatic environments.

Throughout 2025, the organisation continued to develop and deploy specialist equipment designed specifically for the recovery of plastic pellets, biobeads and other microplastics from beaches and shorelines. This included further development of the organisation’s fleet of Nurdle microplastic recovery machines, which saw us built 3 more improved nurdle machines - bringing our total fleet to 4.

A major focus during 2025 was responding to widespread biobead contamination affecting Camber Sands and the surrounding coastline in East Sussex. Nurdlecoasts CIC mobilised specialist equipment and personnel to undertake recovery operations, removing substantial quantities of plastic pollution from the coastal environment. The work also helped develop a greater understanding of the distribution, burial and movement of microplastic pollution within beach sediments and informed the development of improved recovery techniques.

The organisation continued to undertake research, sampling and monitoring alongside its practical clean-up operations. Information gathered during field operations has been used to improve recovery methods, assess contamination levels and support discussions with environmental organisations, regulators, landowners, water companies and other stakeholders.

Throughout the year, Nurdlecoasts CIC continued investing in the development of more efficient microplastic recovery technology. Particular emphasis was placed on increasing recovery rates while reducing the amount of sand and natural material removed from beaches. Equipment and operating methods were progressively improved in response to experience gained during live deployments.

Community benefit remained central to the organisation's activities. Nurdlecoasts CIC's work directly removes persistent plastic pollution from coastal environments, protects wildlife and sensitive habitats, improves beaches and public spaces, and develops practical methods that can be used to respond to future microplastic pollution incidents.

The organisation also continued to work alongside local communities, volunteers, environmental organisations, businesses and other stakeholders. These relationships enabled knowledge and practical experience to be shared and helped increase awareness of plastic pellet and microplastic pollution.

Income generated by Nurdlecoasts CIC during the period was used to support its environmental objectives, including staffing, equipment, research and development, transport and the delivery of clean-up and pollution-response activities. The company's activities were undertaken for community and environmental benefit rather than for private profit.

PART 2 - CONSULTATIONS WITH STAKEHOLDERS
