COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

COMPOST LONDON CIC

Company Number: 11135700 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 January 2026

Company activities and impact

We continue to provide support, advice and information to voluntary, community, faith-based community groups and not-for-profit social enterprises in East London and surrounding boroughs through networks, mentoring, training and workshops. I attach a link to our latest Impact report. We undertake to produce an impact report every two years. Compost Impact Report We have secured two years of funding to help us achieve the strategic plan for the ESOL Exchange and, hopefully, reignite this network. Our health-funded research engagement network has been funded for another year with Compost as one of the partners. Our role is engaging with communities via Research cafes, where members of the organisations can meet and discuss health and social care research. We also produce a newsletter and noticeboard highlighting current research looking for volunteers. We were also commissioned to establish a community of practice for groups across the NE London ICS area to find out about the new health structure and explore ways in which local VCSE groups can engage. Our Community Research Network continues, and we have now trained 12 new Citizen Social Scientists from the Refugee and Migrant network and the training programme for the Marginalised Women network is being recruited to. One of the students from the Refugee and migrant network produced a carpet depicting the findings of his research, and this has been displayed in Greenwich Museum. Our own Nourish Fund provides support for new and developing groups, although we are moving towards delivering more workshops as opposed to one-to-one support to meet the growing need. Workshop topics are chosen from feedback from the groups we meet at events and work with. We produce a monthly newsletter and have an electronic noticeboard where organisations can advertise events and services, and we can post information.

Consultation with stakeholders

At all our events, training sessions and workshops, we ask participants to complete a feedback form that asks how useful the event was, what could have been improved and any ideas for future events. Post-event, these are recorded and analysed The decision to move to more workshop support via the Nourish fund has been as a response to more groups asking for similar topics in applications to the Nourish Fund. We held a successful Theory of Change workshop that was attended by 20 people. The themes for the Research cafes that we deliver are directly based on feedback we receive from attendees at the previous research cafe and in conjunction with NIHR and local hospital trusts who supply the researchers. Our Community Research trainee Citizen Social Scientists carry out research as part of their training, drawing on their own lived experience. The project then gives them a platform to present their work to policymakers and people who can use their findings to improve or shape practice. We have worked with Heriot-Watt University on their Joseph Rowntree longitudinal project tracking deprivation. Our role is to put forward groups that work with deprived communities, so their experience is included in the national research. We have also been part of the NAVCA project exploring the power and usefulness of infrastructure organisations like ourselves. Feedback from our local groups will help shape our services as well as feed into the national picture.
