During its first financial year, Canopy & Campfires CIC secured funding and commissioned nature-based wellbeing programmes for young people in the Rochdale area. Its activities aimed to improve access to supportive provision for young people facing emotional, social or educational difficulties, including those with additional needs. Funding from the Rochdale Communities Fund supported mentoring, counselling-supported provision, woodland crafts and introductory sessions. This project was completed during the year. National Lottery Community Fund funding supported the Wilderness Wellbeing project, which remained ongoing at 30 September 2026. Commissioned provision offered opportunities to develop confidence, resilience and self-esteem through purposeful outdoor activities and supportive conversation. It also provided opportunities to practise cooperation, take responsibility and care for the local woodland environment. The community benefit centred on supporting local young people’s wellbeing and participation, while giving families access to additional support alongside education and other services. The CIC developed and managed the projects, commissioned independent practitioners and oversaw the use of funding and the quality of provision. Sessions were delivered by the commissioned practitioners.
The company’s stakeholders include young people participating in its funded projects, their parents and carers, and schools. Consultation during the year took place informally through conversations with young people, parents and schools about the funded provision. The feedback gathered will inform the company’s first annual review and its consideration of future project development. At the reporting date, that review had not yet taken place.
