Trustees' Report
The trustees present their report and the financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2026.
Objectives and Activities
Aims and Objectives
To develop the capacity and skills of the members and the community of North East Lincolnshire in such a way that they are better able to identify and help meet their needs and to participate more fully in society.
To promote social inclusion for the public benefit by working with people in North East Lincolnshire to prevent people from becoming socially excluded, relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society. For the purpose of this clause 'socially excluded' means being excluded from society, or part of society, as a result of being a member of a socially and/or economically deprived community.
Public Benefit
The public have benefitted from Green Futures Greater Grimsby Ltd in many ways including:
Receipt of quality, fresh, local fruit and vegetables grown on our site or from local suppliers,
Visiting site for events, coffee afternoons, children's activities, workshops as well as volunteering activities onsite.
Everyone benefits from increased social interaction and many make new friends, reduce isolation, increase skills, confidence and general wellbeing.
The trustees confirm that they have complied with the requirements of Section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit.
Achievements and Performance
Main Achievements
Charitable activities
We have provided a number of activities, workshops, events and social groups as well as volunteering opportunities. All of which help to achieve our charitable aims to reduce social isolation.
Chair's report
The year has been one of significant change for Green Futures. Carol Blakely, CEO for some 13 years, left the organisation at the end of June 2025 to take up a post elsewhere. At the time plans were in place for a potential merger with R-evolution, a charity based in Hull with similar aims to Green Futures. An SLA was put in place for R-evolution to manage Green Futures from the 1st of July, while the merger was completed.
Unfortunately, during the first 4 months of the SLA, a number of issues arose relating to poor management of staff, a lack of provision of promised services, incompatibility of the culture of the two organisations and the unprofessional behaviour of R-evolution staff. As a consequence, Green Futures terminated the SLA in November 2025 and the merger did not go ahead.
Since November 2025 Charlotte Taylor has managed the charity with support from the trustees and from Sarah Palmer as a self-employed assistant for 2 or 3 days a week.
Despite the challenges the year from April 25 until March 26 has overall been a very successful, positive year. Going forward we are hoping to go from strength to strength.

Main Achievements - continued
Good progress has been made in securing a 99year lease at nominal rent, with completion of this process expected early in the new financial year, and the new polytunnel was finally installed in the late spring.
Green Futures continues to be well served by volunteers helping with horticulture and site maintenance. More than 25 of the volunteers are regular with some being long-term supporters. They have been joined at various points during the year by 20+ additional volunteers. We thank them for their continuing, valued contribution which has enabled us to grow produce which is donated to ECHO, the Oasis Hub and to some volunteers and clients.
Students and teachers from CATCH, a local training organisation, and students from Franklin Sixth form College came “to do amazing things” on site on volunteer days.
A number of events open to the public were organised through the year. These included a well-attended Waes Hael in the winter, at which the Grimsby Morris performed, and our Artisan Market in late spring 2025. Every event was a success with around 800 attending in total.
We are grateful for the support of a range of funding organisations. These include the Arts Council, Awards for All, Grantscape (East Coast Community Fund), UKSPF (UK Shared Prosperity Fund), NELC, Unity Trust Bank and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace.
The funding has enabled us to facilitate a wide range of activities for members of the local community, including regular craft sessions for the sew and support group and willow weaving, wood carving, screen printing, yoga, cooking and wreath making workshops, many of which were supported by local artists.
We also provided activities for school and Rainbows groups enabling them to learn about growing their own food and the wildlife that makes our site its home.
A small walking group met regularly throughout the year and some families were regular visitors to the Memorial Garden.
Our course, City and Guilds level 1 in Horticulture, ran over 13 sessions and saw 9 people gain a new qualification.
Finally, the Trustees would like to thank Charlotte Taylor, officially our Admin and Project manager, for all the hard work she has done in taking Charge and steering Green Futures through challenging times and for the successes she has achieved.
Financial Review
Financial Position
Green Futures has used a number of grants throughout the year funding general running costs, workshops and activities. This includes NELC UK SPF, Household Support, Arts Council, East Coast Community Fund, Awards for All, Unity Trust Bank and the Sisters of St Joseph of peace. Each grant has paid for a different element of delivery which has enabled us to continue to deliver our activities.
Reserves Policy
The generated income we create is increasing year on year which enables us to have unrestricted funding, however we are still not at a stage to have the reserves we would like, hence concentrating future efforts on further delivery of paid for activities and workshops.

  • select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
  • observe the methods and principles in the Charity SORP;

Independent Examiner's Statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:
  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or
  2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or
  3. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair view' which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or
  4. the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102).
