Company activities and impact

The inaugural Parallel Music Conference took place on 6th and 7th March 2025 at Solent University, Mettricks cafe and University of Southampton venues. The event delivered 10 education panels focused on the music industry and music creation in the digital age. The full conference and all panels were completely free to attend and aimed at educating and inspiring the next generation of talent of all backgrounds. In addition, in 2025 we launched The Playbook in September 2025 - a monthly free masterclass, a bitesized version of the conference, taking place at alternating music venues across Southampton's city centre. Free to attend with a goal to inspire and educate. In this financial year, we have projected impact of 370 (285 for the specific conference itself) people attending and directly benefitting from educational content as part of Parallel Music Conference. This mostly includes those in the Hampshire regions but also from outer areas. Allowing them to navigate the music industry as a career choice without the barriers of financial cost for such education, content or resources. Music industry content, networking and education often comes with significant financial barriers - Parallel aims to break this and level the playing field.

Consultation with stakeholders

Each month we run a masterclass event called The Playbook where we aim to consult with at least 20 members of our core community target audience. This monthly 'focus group' helps to inform us of the quality of content and efficiency of our CIC's delivery. In addition we consult with the community via email with questionnaire and feedback forms to gain insight on key areas they would like to learn about. Using these findings, we put together the programme for the following event. Two key stakeholders who help make Parallel Music Conference happen are University of Southampton and Solent University. Each year, they offer us feedback in the form of an in-person debrief and email evaluation to follow. Feedback in this financial year has been overwhelmingly positive with the addition of constructive points for following events. Their commitment for future events remains in-place.
