During the 2025/26 Financial Year During the 2025/26 financial year, McScience CIC continued its mission to make Plymouth the Science Hub of the UK by providing accessible science education, outdoor learning, environmental initiatives and community engagement opportunities. We have expanded both our educational provision and community impact, creating inclusive opportunities for children, young people, families, home-educated learners and the wider community to engage with science in meaningful and inspiring ways. Activities Undertaken Science Education Delivered regular online and face-to-face science tuition for Primary, KS3 and GCSE learners. Produced an extensive programme of free educational resources, revision materials and science lessons through YouTube and social media platforms. Continued supporting learners from mainstream education, home education and those requiring additional educational support through engaging and accessible science teaching. The Green Equation Forest School Successfully launched The Green Equation Forest School at Poole Farm, providing regular outdoor learning sessions combining science, environmental education, practical skills and wellbeing. Expanded our provision in response to demand, introducing additional sessions to enable more families and home-educated learners to participate. Delivered activities including biodiversity studies, bushcraft, wildlife observation, ecology, den building, fire lighting, conservation projects and practical outdoor learning experiences. Community Engagement Continued developing plans for The Curiosity Reserve (Wild Lab), our proposed outdoor science and environmental education centre. Held meetings with local residents, councillors, community organisations and potential partners to discuss the future development of the Wild Lab and ensure the project reflects local needs and aspirations. Continued developing proposals, funding opportunities and partnerships to support the long-term delivery of this ambitious community project. Worked alongside volunteers on environmental improvement projects, woodland restoration and community clean-up activities, encouraging community ownership of local green spaces and increasing awareness of biodiversity. Organisational Development Continued strengthening governance, safeguarding procedures and organisational policies to support the organisation's continued growth. Expanded volunteering opportunities, enabling individuals to gain practical experience in education, environmental conservation and community engagement. Impact Achieved Throughout the year, McScience CIC has: Supported hundreds of learners through direct science tuition, outdoor learning experiences and educational activities. Reached thousands of people through free online educational content, increasing access to science regardless of background or location. Improved confidence, wellbeing and engagement in learning through practical, hands-on science and nature-based education. Created inclusive learning opportunities for home educated learners, SEND learners and families seeking alternative educational experiences. Strengthened relationships with schools, local organisations, councillors and community groups, creating new opportunities for collaboration. Continued building the foundations for long-term environmental education projects that will benefit future generations across Plymouth. Next Year's Plans (2026/27) During the 2026/27 financial year, McScience CIC intends to continue expanding its educational and community impact by: Growing The Green Equation Forest School through additional weekly sessions, holiday programmes and family learning opportunities. Continuing the development of The Curiosity Reserve (Wild Lab) by progressing community consultation, partnership development, fundraising, lease negotiations and planning work to establish a flagship outdoor science, conservation and community education centre. Expanding science education through additional online courses, workshops, school partnerships and outreach activities. Developing alternative education programmes and specialist provision for home educated learners, SEND learners and young people requiring additional educational support. Increasing volunteering, leadership and work experience opportunities to help individuals develop practical skills, confidence and employability. Strengthening partnerships with schools, charities, local authorities, businesses and community organisations to increase access to high-quality STEM education. Securing additional grant funding and sponsorship to ensure the long-term sustainability of McScience CIC and enable continued investment in educational resources, facilities and community projects. Continuing our mission of making Plymouth the Science Hub of the UK by inspiring curiosity, promoting scientific understanding, improving wellbeing and creating opportunities for lifelong learning through science and the natural environment.
