Company activities and impact

PART 1 - GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPANY'S ACTIVITIES AND IMPACT May 2025- May 2026 As in previous years, Note Weavers CIC continues to build and grow its reach and reputation, both regionally and nationally. We were successful in our Youth Music grant submission, and so commenced delivery of our Sound Beginnings Project. This project has many strands, building on our learning from previous projects, as well as exploring and researching new ways to support early years musicians and practitioners across the North West. One of the delivery strands is working with settings in Sefton and West Lancashire areas to develop and encourage the use of music to support language development in young children. As well as delivering sessions, CPD for the practitioners is built into the delivery to embed and help sustain music activity after our supported delivery has finished. This project will also see us working further with Lancashire Libraries to further support their use of music within their music and story-telling sessions. Part of the Sound Beginnings project also enabled us to deliver live performances of The Gingerbread Man musical story in partnership with the BBC Philharmonic, followed by an interactive music session led by Note Weavers. The first of these free to access performances were delivered at Layton Library, Blackpool. It was a highly successful event and a wonderful opportunity to deliver live music to young children. Building on our successful conference in 2024, we returned to Skipton in March 2026 for our second conference, working once more in partnership with AMP Music and with new partners More Music. This was another highly successful event attracting 80 people from across the North of England as well as further afield (Bedford, Devon, Bristol). The theme of the conference was 'Holistic Approaches to Early Years Music Making' with a keynote on 'Intergenerational Music Making' given by Hugh Nankivell, We were commissioned by the BBC Philharmonic to work with them to deliver CPD and workshops on one of the Musical Storyland programmes across North Yorkshire as part of an AMP-Music and Orchestras Live project. The format for this project worked well and saw us deliver a CPD webinar on how to use the resources and ideas for further developing musical skills as well as wider curriculum learning. The children and staff then had the opportunity to watch live performances of the musical story which were then followed a week later with our workshops, delivered with one of the musicians, to further demonstrate how the accompanying resources could be used in schools. This was a great opportunity not only to build more connections but to use the award winning resources we created. We were also asked by Bedford Music Service to deliver two workshops at their regional music conference; the first an interactive workshop on the resources for Musical Storyland and the second on using one musical stimulus across multiple age ranges from nursery into Key Stage 2. This was a great opportunity to connect with those outside of our region and great learning for us to understand the challenges faced in other areas. Note Weavers have become part of the Great Manchester and Blackburn with Darwen Music Hub Wider Partners group, regularly attending meetings to discuss and network with music services as well as other partner organisations. As part of our Sound Beginnings project we plan to organise 'Gathering' events to further build relationships and support early years music making. Following our Creative Cultural Partnership project, our connection with Lancashire Music Service is deepening and we are in early discussions with them about a new early years project. We were approached by Sound Hub! Liverpool to deliver an Early Years workshop at their inaugural conference for music services and schools/settings in the Liverpool city and Warrington areas. This practical workshop was well attended and helped us to begin to develop our connections in this area of our region. Through our Connecting Threads online CPD, discussion and networking sessions we connect and consult on areas of learning/discussion participants would like to further explore. We also support early career practitioners, giving them the opportunity to co-host or lead these sessions with us, to build their confidence and experience In order to continue and extend our work Note Weavers we are currently exploring further options for grant funding through the National Lottery Community Fund as well as Arts Council England.
