Company activities and impact

My Eco baby Community Interest Company is situated in Wakefield City Centre and covers the area of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council. Its primary aim is to support families in need selling baby and childrens clothes, toys and equipment at a fraction of charity shop prices. In addition clothes, toys and equipment are donated to those in immediate need (e.g. those fleeing violence) and other organisations supporting people in desperate circumstances (e.g. refugees, homeless etc). Donations of clothes, toys and equipment are received from customers at the shop and by collection from charities and organisations within a 75 mile radius. This meets the secondary aim of reducing items going to landfill. The shop provides a family friendly supportive environment. It is a designated ‘safe space’ (West Yorkshire Police) and provides private areas for breastfeeding and baby changing. Staff and volunteers signpost families and others to supportive organisations. Activities are organised for socially and economically deprived families. These include movie events, crafts and a library. The shop has many volunteers, many who have special needs, mental health issues or need confidence building. My Eco Baby CIC also has a Community Grocery providing food and drink to those in need
