COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

LONDON FEMINIST BOOK CLUB CIC

Company Number: 14575219 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 January 2026

Company activities and impact

London Feminist Book Club CIC supports people to make meaningful connections through a shared love of reading. Operating through seven book clubs, the CIC provides regular book clubs, author events and socials, to create a community of like-minded individuals who are able to bond over a book. We discuss books by women, for women, but we are open to all. Our book clubs aim to uplift and share women’s voices, exploring key feminist issues and promoting gender equity. Alongside book clubs in the community, London Feminist Book Club CIC has continued to deliver book clubs and author events in a corporate environment, to replicate the feeling of creating a like-minded community, but in the workplace. In our community interest statement when becoming a CIC, we said that our mission was to create safe and accessible spaces for women across London to network and make connections, discuss diverse feminists read, and help improve their wellbeing and mental health and improve literacy skills through reading, writing, speaking and listening. We are delighted to say that in our third year of delivery we think we have really worked towards and stayed within our mission and ethos. In the past 12 months, the community interest organisation has hosted roughly 84 book clubs events, selling around 2,520 tickets. We have delivered another corporate events, with 95% of attendees rating the event as excellent, and the rest rating the events as very good. We have also launched our seventh book club, which is in Falmouth (Cornwall), which means we now have book clubs in North, South and West London, Bristol, Sheffield, Guildford and Falmouth. Charity of the year: Again, we have continued to support a women’s rights charity Beyond the Streets. The charity works with women involved in the UK sex industry. They create routes out of prostitution and work with others including those with lived experience by challenging the stigma that surrounds the sale of sex, eliminate “survival sex” and more broadly end violence against women and girls

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are the book club members. They are split into seven communities - North London, South London, West London, Bristol, Sheffield, Guildford and Falmouth. All books are decided by our members, venue locations are decided by our members and anything else is decided by our board members, who give regular professional feedback and guidance. Because we want the book clubs to be as inclusive as possible, we constantly ask for future book club reads from our members. The top reads are then put into a poll for our members to vote on, leaving all book choices down to our members. We regularly encourage our current members to fill out feedback forms after book club evenings to ensure our events are measuring up to their expectations and we are continuing to offer a safe space for conversation and socialisation in the community We currently have 5 board members from a range of sectors, all offering insights in how we can progress the CIC. They have helped us develop better communication with our members, evaluate our values, create plans for growth and have been a fantastic sounding board. Secondly, we have recently recruited a Chair of the Board – who will lead on running the board meetings, and also working closely with the Managing Director to ensure that the CIC is growing strategically but is also becoming financially sustainable, whilst always ensuring that the book club members are involved, enjoying and part of the ethos of the CIC.
