2. Accounting Policies
2.1. Basis of Preparation of Financial Statements
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) "Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)", Financial Reporting Standard 102 "The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland" and the Companies Act 2006.
The charitable company is a Public Benefit Entity as defined by FRS 102.
2.2. Incoming Resources
All incoming resources are included in the statement of financial activities when the charity is legally entitled to the income, the receipt is probable, and the amount can be quantified with reasonable accuracy. The following specific policies are applied to particular categories of income:
• Donations and gifts: Donated income and general voluntary contributions are recognized when received or when the charity has unconditional entitlement to the funds.
• Grants and government funding: Grants with performance conditions are recognized in the statement of financial activities as the conditions are met. Grants received where no performance conditions are attached are recognized as income when the charity has unconditional entitlement. Grants for capital assets are recognized as incoming resources when receivable, or deferred if the donor has imposed specific timing or operational restrictions.
• Investment income: Interest and dividend income are accounted for on a receivable basis once the dividend has been declared or interest has accrued.
The Charity received a donation from Arnold Clark, funding from the Co-op Community Fund, the Nottinghamshire Masons, Jobs 22, Global Solutions for Clothing and Brehney Group. The Glitter Ball was very successful with a raffle, auction and ticket sales, all of which has supported the operating costs.
2.3. Resources Expended
All expenditure is accounted for on an accrual basis. Charitable expenditure comprises those costs incurred by the Charity in the delivery of its activities. It includes both costs that can be allocated directly to such activities and those costs of an indirect nature necessary to support them. Governance costs include all costs involving the public accountability of the charity and its compliance with regulation and good practice.
Expenditure on charitable activities is incurred on directly undertaking the activities which further the Charity's objectives, as well as any associated support costs.
2.4. Tangible Fixed Assets and Depreciation
Tangible fixed assets are measured at cost less accumulated depreciation and any accumulated impairment losses. Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost of the fixed assets, less their estimated residual value, over their expected useful lives on the following bases:
Computer Equipment 33% Straight Line
Page 6
Page 7
2.5. Stocks and Work in Progress
Stocks and work in progress are valued at the lower of cost and net realisable value after making due allowance for obsolete and slow-moving stocks.
Cost is determined using the first-in, first-out method. Cost includes all direct costs and an appropriate proportion of fixed and variable overheads.
Work in progress is reflected in the accounts on a contract by contract basis by recording turnover and related costs as contract activity progresses.
At the end of each reporting period stocks are assessed for impairment. If an item of stock is impaired, the identified stock is reduced to its selling price less costs to complete and sell and an impairment charge is recognised in the statement of financial activities. Where a reversal of the impairment is required the impairment charge is reversed, up to the original impairment loss, and is recognised as a credit in the statement of financial activities.
2.6. Cash and Cash Equivalents
Cash and cash equivalents are basic financial assets and include cash in hand and deposits held at call with banks, other short-term highly liquid investments that mature in no more than three months from the date of acquisition and are readily convertible to a known amount of cash with insignificant risk of change in value, and bank overdrafts.
