During the financial year 1 February 2025 to 31 January 2026, Mei Mei Social CIC continued to provide accessible and inclusive arts activities for communities in Islington, London. The company delivered two regular community art programmes: The Art Laboratory at Whittington Park Community Centre and Girdlestone Art Group , supporting older adults and people experiencing social isolation, disabilities, financial disadvantage or other barriers to accessing creative opportunities. These programmes provided welcoming spaces where participants could explore different artistic techniques, develop new skills, express themselves creatively and build meaningful social connections. Alongside the regular workshops, Mei Mei Social CIC organised cultural visits to venues including Kenwood House, Wellcome Collection and Victoria Miro Gallery , giving participants opportunities to experience exhibitions, engage with art and explore cultural spaces together. All activities were designed to encourage participation regardless of previous artistic experience, promote wellbeing, reduce loneliness and strengthen community relationships. Through these initiatives, Mei Mei Social CIC continued its mission of making art accessible, encouraging creative expression and building a more inclusive and connected community.
During the reporting period (1 February 2025 – 31 January 2026), Mei Mei Social CIC maintained regular communication with its stakeholders, including workshop participants, local residents, community organisations and funding partners. Our key stakeholders included Cripplegate Foundation, the Arsenal Foundation, Islington Council, Whittington Park Community Centre, Girdlestone Community Centre and the people participating in our activities. Consultation with participants and community engagement We encouraged participants to share their interests, ideas and suggestions through informal discussions during workshops and regular conversations with the programme coordinator. Participants played an active role in shaping our programme of activities and cultural outings. In response to their interests and suggestions, we organised a canal boat trip, a visit to the zoo, and outdoor drawing and photography activities. These experiences provided opportunities for creative exploration, social interaction and engagement with the local environment. We also collaborated with Islington Council to deliver an educational workshop led by one of its ecologists, allowing participants to explore local wildlife and learn more about the biodiversity of Islington. Responding to demand and improving our activities As participation and demand for our art workshops increased, we responded by moving our activities into a larger hall at Whittington Park Community Centre. This allowed us to accommodate more participants and provide a more comfortable environment for creative activities. We also listened to participants' suggestions regarding artistic materials and techniques, introducing additional printmaking resources, including gelatine printing plates, to expand opportunities for creative experimentation. Accessibility and inclusion Through ongoing discussions with participants, we identified barriers to participation, including mobility difficulties and the costs associated with cultural outings. These conversations informed our plans to seek additional funding for accessible transport and other support, with the aim of ensuring that people with different mobility needs and financial circumstances can participate. Engagement with partners and funders We maintained relationships with our community partners and funding organisations to support the delivery and development of our activities. This collaborative approach helped us respond to community needs, improve accessibility, strengthen social connections and ensure that participants had a meaningful voice in shaping our programmes.
During the financial year ending 31 January 2026, the directors Lee Turner and Diego Vazquez Rivieros received no remuneration or financial benefits from Mei Mei Social CIC. Marta Martinez Corada, Director, received payments for professional services relating to the delivery and administration of community art workshops. These payments were recorded as subcontractor expenses in the company's accounts. No separate salary was paid for her duties as company director.
