We run Odd Socks Folkestone, we have put on several free community events. The two biggest during this time period were the Clothes Swap. This is a free 5 day event in the spring and autumn where the town donates clothes, volunteers sort through them and then they are given away. - 8 volunteers were able to run the events and pick ups, including an individual in long-term unemployment, several neurodiverse individuals, and several individuals with mental health conditions, leading to stonger sense of community and purpose. - 1800 plus people attended our events during this time period, with people welcome from all walks of life, - 4 households supported by volunteers parting with clothes, including those in grief, battling hoarding, disability, and poverty - Thousands of items of clothes given back to the community - we don't have the capacity to count each item as we are working flat out. These items are often saved from landfill, and are taken by all members of the Folkestone community, these include but are not limited to, students, new parents, those without housing, disabled individuals and those experiencing body changes. - Increased local goodwill, and connections. Since starting the swap we have seen an increase in optimism among our community, new friendships, and people offering to save clothes, repair them, and setting aside specific items we always run out of, like raincoats and mensware.
