During the year, Rama Life provided educational opportunities for children and young people in Somerset. Activities included small-group sessions for home-educated young people, alternative provision, school holiday activities, and weekend and evening community groups. The provision supported young people with a range of needs and circumstances, including those who found mainstream education difficult to access and those who benefited from a smaller, calmer learning environment. Many attendees experienced social anxiety. Approximately 95% of term-time attendees were neurodivergent, as were around half of holiday club attendees. Sessions combined academic learning such as maths, English and STEM (Science, Engineering Maths and Technology) with creativity (Art and Problem Solving), practical life skills, outdoor and physical activities, with an emphasis on positive relationships, individual support and developing skills. Young people had opportunities to build confidence, develop friendships, explore their interests and experience a sense of belonging, while learning about themselves and recognising their strengths and challenges. Rama Life supported young people to reduce isolation, develop confidence and engage with learning in ways that suited their needs. Its activities also supported families by providing accessible, welcoming educational and recreational opportunities, including weekend sessions that children and adults could attend together. In spring 2025, Rama Life introduced the “Yellow School Bus” to its site, providing a much-needed office, breakout area, additional learning space and meeting area. This has enabled the company to support more young people and families, and to better meet the needs of those who benefit from quiet space to decompress.
Rama Life’s stakeholders include the children and young people who attend, their parents and carers, staff, and referring professionals. The company engaged with them through day-to-day conversations, feedback and discussions about individual needs and experiences. Young people were encouraged to share their interests, preferences and views through dedicated feedback activities and feedback forms. Young people chose around 85% of the topics covered in Wednesday and Friday sessions and had a say in activities and subjects in most other groups. At holiday club, young people helped suggest themes for future holidays. Parents and carers had regular opportunities to discuss what was working well and to raise concerns or suggestions, through weekly conversations, email and an annual survey. Staff contributed observations and ideas through weekly team discussions and one-to-one supervision. This feedback directly shaped the provision. In response to young people needing space to work in smaller groups, and families asking for more in-person support, Rama Life introduced the Yellow School Bus as additional learning, breakout and meeting space. Families asked for Saturday provision, so Saturday sessions were introduced. Young people asked for life skills sessions to be run by a mix of leaders, and this was put in place. Young people’s choices also continued to direct the learning topics covered in their groups.
The aggregate amount of emoluments paid to or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £35,378.59 as outlined in the accounts. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
