COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

DECOLONISE C.I.C.

Company Number: 11795937 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 January 2026

Company activities and impact

Decolonise Fest is an annual London-based, non-profit DIY arts and culture festival collectively organised by and for people of colour in the punk scene. Our collective is made up of activists, militant community organisers, musicians, and artists that came together to hold our first festival in 2017. Decolonise Fest centres the experiences of people of colour, who we define this as people who are descended (through one or both parents) from the original inhabitants of Africa, Caribbean, Asia, Middle East, Latin America, Australasia, North America, and the islands of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean, and of Romany Gypsy or Traveller or Traveller heritage. This year we held our festival at Signature Brew Blackhorse Road, which is a larger venue than our previous venue. We also received arts council funding for the festival and were able to pay our artists and workshop leaders more than previous. We hosted artists like Native James, Hyphen, Master Peace, The None, Bona Rays and more. We also held workshops and panel events on drum classes, safe spaces in the music industry, pom pom making, and more. Outside of the annual festival we also held the final edition of our Decolonise Fest on Tour series and held a gig in Leeds at the local punk venue Wharf Chambers. The show featured artists including Hang Linton, Pleasure Centre and Lia Rye.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders are its attendees, the musicians that play the event, the speakers and members of the public who offer their services at the event, and the local music community. The directors and members of Decolonise C.I.C. have been part of the local music community collectively for over a decade and have based the outlook and values of the festival on our experiences with our local community. We sent out a survey to our attendees and bands who responded and said they enjoyed the atmosphere of the festival the most and our selection of bands. They also said next time they would like more events outside of London, and recommended investing in a venue with more space and better resources.

Directors' remuneration

The total amount paid or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £2,443. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
