COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

OCEAN BUFFER PROJECT CIC

Company Number: 16540756 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 May 2026

Company activities and impact

Ocean Buffer Project CIC is a Cornwall-based community project exploring land-based marine microalgae cultivation and potential carbon storage using low-impact, food-safe, recycled or reusable materials where appropriate. During its first reporting period, it carried out small-scale algae trials, developed its community hub and engaged people in environmental learning and practical volunteering. By 31 May 2026, 17 volunteers were registered, five had volunteered on site and two interns had contributed. Volunteers provided 96.75 hours: 56.75 on site and 40 remotely. Participation included students, with retirees joining the advisory board. Roles were shaped around individual capabilities and capacity, enabling people within and beyond Cornwall to contribute. An engagement evening encouraged discussion of everyday environmental choices; attendees reported reconsidering recycling and other environmental habits. Local residents and holidaymakers also expressed interest in visiting the project. These activities supported community participation, shared learning and environmental awareness. Carbon-removal research remained developmental; no verified quantity of carbon removal is claimed.

Consultation with stakeholders

The Company's key stakeholders include volunteers, interns, local residents, environmental researchers, educational groups, community organisations and potential funding partners. Throughout the period, Ocean Buffer Project CIC engaged stakeholders through volunteer opportunities, practical environmental activities, community discussions and educational outreach. The project welcomed participation from individuals with a wide range of skills, backgrounds and availability, including students, retirees and remote volunteers. Feedback from participants indicated increased awareness of environmental issues and greater consideration of sustainable practices in daily life. The Company remains committed to maintaining open communication with stakeholders and ensuring that future activities continue to deliver community and environmental benefit.
