This financial year we have hosted four Celtic Celebrations, several creative writing, heritage craft, foraging and cooking workshops, as well as three Children’s Forest tree planting days with three tending days. With our volunteers we have created two fresh water ponds and two wells, to continue our efforts to demonstrate and educate on sustainability by conserving natural resources. The ponds serve as educational resources for the children’s ongoing ecological surveys and have greatly increased the biodiversity of the water meadow. The water from the ponds, we are using to irrigate our children’s food forest and Cornish fruit orchard. These events have helped to address loneliness and isolation through creating welcoming community spaces whilst also providing opportunities for those affected by the cost of living crisis to have free access to social events and workshops, as well as access to nutrient-dense, fresh food. Participants said they felt less anxious about climate change, a greater sense of community spirit, pride and belonging for the spaces they created and that our workshops increased their self-awareness, self-esteem and confidence.
