During 2025/26 Creating Caring Connections CIC has; - Provided 237 hours of companionship support since February 2025. Companionship support enables family carers to have a break from their caring role (supporting their wellbeing and ability to continue in their role) and allows opportunities for the individuals receiving companionship support to engage in activities that are meaningful to them, promoting a sense of identity, purpose, and wellbeing. - Completed 11 intergenerational school reading sessions A lady who receives companionship support visits a local primary school once a month (during term time) to listen to year 1 children read. Fortnightly visits are planned from Feb 2026. - Started to prepare a new Intergenerational Connections Pilot Project to begin February 2026 Intergenerational connections promote wellbeing for all involved, they also evoke feelings of purpose, pride and confidence and support children's development (empathy, social skills and learning about others/the past). Intergenerational practice also contributes to breaking down social barriers and helping to create more cohesive communities. 'This all sounds so perfect' (care home). 'This all sounds lovely ... We would definitely like to be involved' (school)
Companionship Support Feedback Observational feedback is used during companionship support sessions. Activities that appear to be enjoyed and encourage engagement are offered again during future sessions. Feedback from informal carers and family members is received verbally when activities are proposed or discussed. Feedback from one individual receiving companionship support: "You've lifted me up, I feel much better, it was fun, thank you." Feedback from an individual's husband during a recent respite stay: "Both days when he visited, she wanted to know when she would see you again. Well done and very grateful." After trips out, the individual often comments that she has had a good time: "That was nice that was, I had a lovely time with you. You're the only one that takes me to nice places." Further feedback from the individual's husband: "She does love every minute of her time with you and I appreciate the kindness and sympathy that you provide. She enjoys the trips out for lunch, the games of dominoes and the jigsaws that you assist with in such a lovely patient manner. I very much appreciate all your helpful advice around Alzheimer's and better ways of treating and generally dealing with her condition. I am so much more relaxed when you are with her and feel totally confident leaving her with you for the 4-hour spells. With your support I have been able to keep her at home for longer than would otherwise be possible. As I have said, you are a total godsend to both her and myself." Feedback from the school - Intergenerational Reading Sessions "Mrs P is really keen for you and I to continue coming in to school. The children enjoy reading to her and are calmer and more considerate when sitting with her. Some of our less confident children are beginning to read aloud without feeling pressure. To that end, would you both be up for coming in more frequently? Maybe fortnightly?"
The two directors do not receive payment for this role. One director is paid for the companionship support provided (detailed in accounts) and intends to receive payment for facilitating the intergenerational sessions in the future when it is financially viable.
