| Tangible fixed assets are measured at cost less accumulated depreciation and any impairment. Depreciation is provided to write off cost less estimated residual value over the expected useful life, as follows. Plant and machinery, 5 years straight line. Motor vehicles, 25% reducing balance. Fixtures and fittings, 5 years straight line. Computer equipment, 5 years straight line. Pianos let to customers on hire are held to earn rental income over more than one period and are shown as tangible fixed assets, within plant and machinery, while they are on hire. A piano moves from stock to fixed assets at cost when it goes out on hire and back to stock at its carrying amount when it returns to be sold. The director estimates that the residual value of each piano is not less than its cost, so no depreciation is charged on them. Residual values are reviewed at each year end. Pianos on hire cost £26,579 at 30 September 2026 (2025 restated: £28,867). Additions of £11,318 are pianos transferred from stock and disposals of £13,606 are pianos returned to stock or sold. In earlier years these pianos were included in stock and the comparative figures have been reclassified. |
